Hi, Rladams
  the best places to look for easy fix's  are in the Prusa Specific Gcodes 
and the Reprap Gcodes. 

Here is a sample of the Filament change options

I have not tried it, but it is likely that the 
M600 Z xxxx     option, will give you the option of changing the height as desired. 

there may be similar values for the other instances where you wish to make changes 

Otherwise, I suspect the changes will need to be made in the firmware and re compiled to create a custom firmware.

Thank you - I will post if I figure out how to make it work. (I am tired of having to adjust the Z-height after pause or stop to get the extruder/hot end out of the way so I can clean up whatever mess precipitated the pause/stop)

this can also be referred to as parking, in case your looking more specificly.

In Prusa - I found:

• M600; Initiate Filament change procedure - usage - M600 [ X | Y | Z | E | L | AUTO ]
• M601; Pause print
• M603; Stop print

M600 has the variable I want (a z-height 'relative' lift), but I don't have a mechanism for initiating it until AFTER I pause / stop. M601 & M603 are not adjustable. I also found [M125 Pause Print] which is not implemented and [M25 Pause SD print] which doesn't have any variables either. 

I looked through rerap.org G-codes where in addtion I found:

• M217; Toolchange Parameters

This is not implemented in Prusa. This command includes variables to set the park position (including the relative z-height raise). In my opinion, based on the very limited description for such a feature - this is probably a placeholder for when tool changes are more common.

It is odd to me that Park, Auto Park and Unpark are referenced so many times without any explicit controls for setting the position. I could not find any reference for the implicit meaning of "PARK" (or "UNPARK").

I am at the end of my personal quest - I believe I am looking for a feature that is not there (yet), so I will submit a feature request.

M600 X10 Y15 Z5 ; Do filament change at X:10, Y:15 and Z:+5 from current

If your not sure where to put this, and how this works, you may want to go a little slower and work out some basics, I'm not meaning to sound condescending.

I'm misunderstanding what you wanted, I thought you wanted to add a g-code that would position the extruder where you wanted it during a M600, after reading again It looks as though you want it to happen from the terminal when you select Pause from the LCD screen, in the marlin menu. I'm pretty sure you would have to alter and compile your own version of the firmware for that.

you can do this in g-code however it would pause that print at that point every time you ran that print.

You are correct - I want a firmware change so that the pause and stop commands behave differently. My rationale is simple: when I need to spontaneously pause or stop it is usually because something isn't going well. To deal with the issue I usually need the extruder higher out of the way.
