Selftest Failing Please Help
Hello folks,
I have a mk3 that I did the upgrade to the mk3s+. I have been pulling my hair out like no other because it has been such a damned fight.
If I flash the 3.10.x firmware to the machine everything seems fine until you go to do anything with the unit. The only response you get out the the machine is the audible click when depressing the encoder knob. Other than that there is no response at all what-so-ever. So, then I poked around on the forums and such and found this is a rare occurrence, but it has happened a great few times and the recommended fix by the community at the time is to simply revert back to 3.9.x firmware and to my luck that does work. Its whatever, I figured you win some you lose some. However I cannot for the life of me get the self test to cooperate at all. Now the issue is the damned "x-axis length" when its starts checking the various axis(plural). In reading in the forums again, the number given, means the lower the belt tension the higher the value to the machine etc. So if I have the belt tightened properly, gentle squeeze etc. The value is the low 100's and the machine recommends that the tension be lowered to a point where the motors are literally skipping because the belts on both X and Y are so loose. This whole upgrade has been a nightmare. This has gotten so far in to it that I can not even go back. I am lost and need some help please.
TIA

Look at step 63, did you correctly align the zip ties heads?

Yes, everything checks out,
Still doesnt explain why the only way to get the number even close to being within tolerance is to get the belts so loose they are flopping around and even yet even then throwing the "loose belt" message.
The closest I can get the value is approximately 220 on X and 168 on Y. recommended pinch tension starting at 116. As I lower the tension the value goes up getting closer to the needed value of 240. Then it is so loose that it is flopping around and then throws "loose belt". From what I have read in scouring the forums and such, there are a few folks for whatever reason the firmware is seeing the values improperly. There is nothing more I can do in the respect of adjustment to get to where it needs to be.
RE: Selftest Failing Please Help
the selftest values refer to the effort needed to move the Axis. maybe there is something else wrong?
Do the AXIS move freely, by hand? No jerks, stoppages roughness
can you post some pictures of the X and Y Motors showing the belt path and the general pictures of the printer
For the Mk3 series, people often get the XAxis Toothed wheel bac to front, and the Y axis toothed wheel, too close to the motor mount

RE: Selftest Failing Please Help
Do as @joantabb suggests.
Clean and lubricate the smooth rods, check they are not damaged/scratched. Check the idler pulley is not clogged, out of line, or damaged (loosen the belt and try turning it with your fingertip, is it smooth?)
With the belt loose try turning the stepper motor by hand; is it smooth?
Retighten the belt until it just begins to make a low musical note when plucked...
If the printer works, make your next print this:
https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/46639-tension-meter-for-the-gt2-belts-of-i3-mk3s-or-prus
It MUST be printed in Prusament PETG or the spring tension will be wrong.
