Self build

I was thinking of doing a self-build of an MK3S+, printing all the printable parts, then purchasing the remaining part from the Prusa e-shop

Has anyone else done this? would it end up costing me more?

RE: Self build

If your goal is saving $$$, there are clones and clone kits out there.  Selecting one is to be an exercise for the student.  😉  YMMV and remember, you get what you pay for.

When I decided to order a few spare parts from Prusa to keep on hand, there were a few that it would not let me buy (I think it may have been a replacement belt that triggered it) unless I was logged in with the account with which I ordered the printer.

There are clone frames out there.  The Einsy Rambo is commonly available.  I'm sure there are clones of the front panel board.  Rods and 'vitamins' are widely available.

RE: Self build

You are more likely to spend less cash if you buy a kit than putting it together piecemeal.

Feel free to print your own parts, though.  You'll get the color you want, and better printer parts.  You won't be printing for maximum part count.  You'll be printing 0.2mm slowly, compared to the farm's 0.3mm fast fast fast.

You also get the valuable Prusa warranty and customer service.

it's not really the money its the fun of building 🙂 but the print speed is an issue 🙂 Think I'll just buy the kit
