SD Card Slot

What is the maximum capacity SD card that the slot/firmware will work with please?

I have no issues with 32Gb SDHC or below, but a 64Gb SDXC card is not recognised, so I'm trying to establish if it is the card, the Mk3 hardware, or the format on the card.

The card works perfectly on Windows Laptops (2 of, Win 10 and Win 7, even though the WIn 7 laptop has to use a USB SDHC converter as its onboard card slot is not HC )

AFAIK no-one has ever got larger than a 32GB to work.

You could try creating and formatting a smaller partition on the 64GB card to see if it's the card or the format causing the problem.

Re: SD Card Slot

it won't work of course. SDXC requires different hardware (SD controller), don't bother with getting it worked. The only thing it has with the SDHC is physical dimension and the fact you can insert it into the reader 😄

I never use big cards than I have to. remember the more gcode files you have on the card, the slower the access is. And I guess you can run out of memory when you hit the limit.

1GB SD card is more than enough for a 3D printer

OK, thanks for replies, summing up so far, it is not that the SDXC always requires a different SD Controller, as it works perfectly well in a really old Easy i SDHC to USB converter. That has no trouble reading it to full 64Gb capacity and reads and writes 100% reliably with that adapter on an old WIn7 laptop that only has a SD slot on board.

It reads and writes perfectly in a SDHC slot on the Win 10 laptop, too, a laptop that pre-dates SDXC.

I suspected it was maybe the file size, so will look at partitioning down just to see.

Re: SD Card Slot

Well this is weird and should not work, I was sure SDXC cannot be read by earlier versions of reader. But it also can have something to do with the SD Bus interface type, if it's an UHS-I or not
