Screen Problem

On my older MK3 machine the screen is blank in the lower right quarter. Hopefully there is a picture attached. This happened when my finger brushed the screen and I could feel the static electricity jump. My question is.... What do I need to replace to try to fix it?

I had this question before and the response suggested that I disconnect and reconnect the screen. This action did not correct it. Any other suggestions?

Jim,

Have you done a factory reset?  Just a thought.  I would contact support also.

Thanks Chuck. I hadn't thought of that. I just tried that and unfortunately it didn't change the screen problem.

By the way, everything prints properly. I just don't get the information that normally prints on the lower right quarter portion of the screen.

Sometimes the ribbon that runs from the LCD can get interference and it can cause issues like you have shown, I might suggest checking the connection of the ribbon and even moving it around a bit (gently) and see if it changes the display. the SD card reader can sometimes cause this as well, as the machine gets older.

Good Luck, hope this helps

Thanks Swiss_Cheese. Moving the card around does cause some issues, that is, it just forgets where it is. Moving the ribbon at either end does not cause any problems, it seems to have a tight connection.

As I mentioned, I did feel the static electric spark jump and the screen changed immediately at that point.

I was hoping that some one could tell me if I replaced the screen if it would clear up. I'm hoping it's not the entire electronic system.

Thanks again for your suggestion.

@jim-cook

Between us we've met many common issues and have a fair chance of fixing them.  This is one of those rare problems which, it appears, no one here has encountered. So, you would ordinarily need to go straight to Prusa support ...

But:  If you're willing to explore the problem a little you have one option not open to most users.

You have more than one MK3:  Swap the part with a good screen on another MK3.

If the problem moves with the part, it's faulty and may be replaced.

If the problem remains with the machine, the supporting electronics are damaged.

If issues arise with both machines then both of the above are true.

And if everything works ... celebrate the miracle.

This procedure can be applied to most faults although common sense needs to be applied where it might cause further damage; in this case we know it doesn't prevent normal operation and so is relatively safe to try.

Cheerio,

Thanks Diem. You are suggesting the same path as I was thinking about. I guess I'm a little hesitant on touching the new machine since it is working absolutely perfectly.

I did send an e-mail to support a week ago but I didn't get a response. Perhaps I should try again.

Thanks again.
