Sat for a while unused. Loaded FW 3.12.3 and now all kinds of axis crash/cal problems

After the FW update my first print had a bed crash.  I decided to re-calibrate and now even my calibrations are failing.

My first xyz cal the head went way to the right in x and crashed off the bed.

I just did a wizard cal and I am getting X Axis Length problems.

Its almost like it thinks the x axis is not what it actually is.

I double checked to make sure I got the MKs3+ and tried it again with the same results.

Any ideas?

When doing the x axis test, the head unit moves to the left but does NOT go all of the way to the left.  Then is goes to the right and hits the end of the run, comes back and throws the error.

Should the initial left movement zero out when hitting the left physical limit?

The three common reasons for prints suddenly failing after a printer has been unused for a while:

A dirty print bed. Give it a really thorough clean and avoid touching the print area.

Damp filament. Look up threads here about drying filament especially if it has been left open.

General neglect, dust and cobwebs... Basic cleaning, lubrication and general maintenance have all been missed. See: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/i3-printers-regular-maintenance_2072

In your case I would start with lubrication.

Thanks @diem . I know the first two aren't the issue since I don't even get that far.

Maybe the lube/clean might be it.  The unit is in a cabinet and looks pretty clean.  The observed behavior though seems weird to me.  The xyz cal going off bed to the right and crashing along with the wizard cal that only partially move to the left prior to hard-hitting on the right.

I should know better by not to not try to do updates before I need to get something printed.  Had I just printed as it was, I could have ruled out the fw as the issue.

And the belt test fails too with an x-axis length error.

It might be worth a full reset in case some forgotten calibration issue is interfering.

Does anyone know what the x-axis length test is actually doing and looking for?

Factory reset did not help.  Still failing the x-axis length test  after the fan tests complete.

OK, with the power off, manually move, slowly, the X axis through it's entire length.

Is it smooth?

Does the resistance vary?

Does it go all the way?

Wow, the sensors on the stepper motors are VERY sensitive.  I lubed the bearings, manually ran it left/right a few times and the self test eventually passed.

Thank you @diem for being patient with me.
