Revo 6 and firmware

I just installed a Revo 6 in my vanilla MK3 and at the top of the guide I used I noticed that there are potential heat issues on newer firmwares and was wondering if that was still the case.

My MK3 is rather out of date since it wasnt functional for most of 2022 and its firmware was already out of date at that point.

Should I only upgrade to firmware 3.11.0 or should I just got to newest?

RE:

That is correct.  3.12.x currently will not function correctly with the Revo unless you take steps to disable the new thermal model features which seem to have been the whole point of the new firmware in the first place.

RE: Revo 6 and firmware

Stick with versions before they added the thermal protection model in 3.12. From the release notes of 3.12.2:

Update on E3D Revo (MK3/MK3S/MK3S+)

We would like to thank all of the community members who provided their TM calibration logs with the E3D REVO! This really helped to improve the TM development for PTC/REVO hotends.

E3D and Prusa Research have also started a task force to work on the Thermal Model for PTC/Revo hotends.

If you parse this statement it basically says, we're working on it but it's not fixed yet.

RE:

I would upgrade to 3.12.x. (be sure to install the right version for MK3). If you have problems with "thermal anomaly" please read Prusa's comment:

"In case you are running 3rd-party parts like the Revo hotend, the thermal model will report errors because it needs to be trained on a large set of samples. We welcome anyone who’s willing to help us with testing. Please provide log files in GitHub issue. For now, you can disable the Thermal Model if you’re running the Revo and you’re certain that your printer is working fine. Connect to your Printer via Pronterface and send G-code M310 S0 followed by M500 - then you can continue using the firmware with third-party parts."

wbr,

Karl
