Reverse Control Knob action...2

at 27/07/2017 11:48 am garry-w did post in Original Prusa i3 MK2/S

"...is it possible to reverse the action of the control knob? for example Counter clockwise scrolls down & decreases values whilst Clockwise scrolls up & increases values. I don't know why but the current way just feels completely back to front..."

this exactly expresses my feelings about the knob on my MK3/s

responded : "...swap pins #1 and #3 of the encoder at the pcb of the LCD2004 module (lift the pins up and reconnect them with wrap wire) ..."

before I cut the rotary encoder off my new printer and solder it back on backwards I would like a little reassurance that that is indeed the correct course of action.

cut the two outer wires coming off the knob thing and wire them swapped. ??

That is possibly the best answer,

an  altermative is to create your own firmware build to change the rotation, but this will mean that every time there is a update, you will have to create your own version again... (Loads of work)

another option it to contact the developers on the GitHub page and make a pull request

The board is pretty cheap, even if it doesn't work, the investment is tiny.

Or!, if you were feeling creative, you could design a new cover for your LCD with a gear that drives the original dial this would in effect give you the direction your looking for with the original menu functionality intact. 😎

Just a thought.

while I write this my MK3s is on the first layer of a lcd cover that I filled in the reset button, eliminating the actuation post, to give a solid foundation for the idler gear pivot shaft.

rapid prototyping, eh ?

layer 3 filament change for contrast lettering, PLA @ .30 Draft.

I don't have a problem with the turning direction of the knob, but maybe just got used to it.

But I would like to see what you come up with.

When I read the post of swiss_sheece it got me thinking. Moving the knob and adding a button on the original place. That way you can have a knob to scroll and a button to select.
