Regular extruder blobs (with clean nozzle)
Hi,
I am currently unable to print anything reliable. After about 2h, a massive blob is extruded mid-print which causes the print head to crash into it.
I have seen the block post about "Extruder Blobs" and I think my problem might be similar. Unfortunately, the blob isn't outside the nozzle, I have already cleaned everything carefully.
The following picture describes the situation quite good I think. I have printed with black filament, but the print failed. I have cleaned the nozzle and the heatblock afterwards. No black filament (and no white one) was stuck on the outside. Then I decided to print something else and switched to white. The print went well, but after 2h of printing, a massive blob of filament suddenly appeared on my model (the thing in the front of my picture). Luckily, I was able to pause the print and remove this blob from my print, but it keeps happening again and again.
How can I solve the problem? Which parts do I need to replace?
Many thanks,
Christoph
RE: Regular extruder blobs (with clean nozzle)
where is the filament coming from? is it from above the heatblock or above the nozzle?
Have you removed or replaced the nozzle recently?
It is possible that your heatbreak and nozzle are not screwed tightly together allowing the plastic to ooze out between them, and mess up your prints

RE: Regular extruder blobs (with clean nozzle)
Hi Joantabb! Thanks for your help. I have now disassembled the hot end and it looks like you are dead right! The filament was coming from the top of the heatblock. I guess I have to tighten it more. Many thanks!
Best regards,
Christoph

Make sure you assemble it properly. Common mistakes:
- Don't tighten the nozzle against the heatblock first. If you start with the nozzle, turn it one full turn back before screwing in and tightening the heatbreak into the heater block. That turn will be needed for tightening at high temperature.
- Once all assembled to the printer, tighten the nozzle using a 7mm socket wrench and a 16mm open wrench while heated to 285 °C to 3 Nm of torque. That will prevent leakage.
