Recommended RPi slicer setup for newby

Hello,

I did a few searches here and on the knowledge base an found mostly people with Octoprint questions. But I'm looking for the simplest Linux setup that I can create for slicing only. I use a Chromebook exclusively and have failed to get Astroprint or other online sources to work for slicing for my new MK3. When I want to slice, I have to borrow my son's laptop or my wife's laptop.

I'd like to setup a cheap Linux box to do my slicing with Slic3r PE and save to an SD card for print. I would want to be able to remote into the Linux box from my Chromebook to do the slicing. Is a Raspberry Pi the way to go? If so, what are the minimum components I need to buy to get a version of Linux up-and-running, with remote access (local network) and the ability to read/write SD card? I'm a newby to Linux, but have some IT background, so I'm teachable, but I'd prefer something that doesn't take as long to put together as an MK3 assembly. 😉

Thanks in advance!
