Recognize this filament sensor upgrade?

After figuring out the firmware, cleaning the hotend and tightening up the idler roller in the MMU of my second-hand MK3S, I'm now getting fairly reliable filament loads and some good prints. However, occasionally the printer asks me to load new filament during printing.

I'm guessing this is because the filament sensor is intermittent.

However, it seems the filament sensor on this printer has been upgraded as per the photos below, and I'd love to find the origin of this mod - perhaps with some instructions. Does anyone here recognize this mod?

This seems like a clever mod as it's relocating the IR sensor to detect the motion of the filament drive gear. I calibrated this more or less as per the instructions for the regular arrangement, e.g. detect a 1.5mm hex key separating the drive gears, but not on empty.

I'm not seeing any flicker on the LED on the sensor when these glitches happen - would there be output on the serial console when the filament sensor toggles?

Ah, thanks - found it here, or at least something very like it.

RE:

Mkay, I adjusted the filament sensor to where it thinks it's loaded by the skin of it's goddamn teeth. It's still ... bailing on me ... towards the ... end of a 2 hour print.

The printer wants me to "unload the old" and "load the new". HOWEVER, when this happens, whether immediately, or after a while, I HAVE THE MMU AND THE EXTRUDER SPINNING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS at some point, reliably shredding filament.

This. Then. Repeats. Groundhog. Goddamn. Day. Forever.

Unload. Old. Load. New. Success. Then unload the new and SHRED IT!

What. The. Actual. Hell!

It's not as if I can look at the printer's sensor screen, as this is a GODDAMN MODAL ACTIVITY!

I consider myself a fairly patent man, but Oh. My. God.

I'm so tempted to spend the $2G CAD on a Bambu that's a tool and not an project. So, so, tempted - though it irks me that it's cloudy and closed source. Talk me out of it?

I should mention I've set up OctoPrint serial logging just now. Maybe I'll see WTH is going on from the logs?

Easy option remove mmu go to default fillament sensor position get printer working fine then add mmu this way you can see if the printer is actually working fine
