Really weird squeaky noises while printing

Hi everyone,

i received my Prusa mk3 at christmas and it was working flawlessly. Today i just started another print and there was the Noise (see video) when printing. Does anyone know where it comes from and how i could fix it? I think it was after the Update to the latest firmware 3.9.3-3556 but i am not sure, so don't pin me on this.

To be honest, it doesn't sound healthy at all.

Thanks a lot =)

Have you checked there is no dirt or filament strings near the fans?

yes, it is indeed clean. I have stopped the Print now and could narrow down the issue to the y-axis. The issue unfortunately still persists after lubing the rod

Ok, i have loosened the steppermotor from the carriage, moving the plate around slowly doesn't make any noise, moving the stepper motor doesn't cause any noise either. Attaching both back together -> Noise

Edit: moving the stepper motor by itself without load also doesn't cause any noise

It sounds to me the culprit might be the extruder motor but I have not seen this before (so I might be totally wrong). Could you try to: 1) with the machine powered off, disconnect the extruder motor cable from the board, and 2) attempt to start a print and see if the noise is gone (of course nothing will be printed without the extruder).

Hi Misan,

thanks for your suggestions, i was suspecting the extruder as well, turns out, it was the y-axis idler. I might have been fastening the screw tiny bit to much, which caused the plastic to get in contact with the bearing and caused this noise. I have loosened the screw and lubricated the sides of the bearing just to be save. It seems to solve the issue.
I will set this topic as solved when the next print is going well =)

@misan

Good to know.  I have a printer that is squeeking similarly.  I thought it was old bearing.  I repalced them last week to no avail.  I will check the Y idler screw.  Thanks.

@cwbullet,

actually, it wasn't directly the screw in my case but instead the sides of the idler pressing against the bearing, hence the screw was just too tight.

Good luck with it =)
