Question - Stepper motor wiring - Does it have to be twisted?
I have an idea to replace the current cables from the extruder with silicone types, but mounted on a flat flexible strap with cable clips in positions along its length. If you can imagine a ribbed flat belt opened out flat but with clips every so often to hold the cables which would sit in the grooves.
This would be like a minimalistic energy chain for the cables with the cables on one side and the flat surface on the other, this would have to be printed in maybe PETG or TPU.
But, the extruder stepper motor has the cabling twisted. Is there a reason for this, or can I run the 4 wires side by side?.
Normal people believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain’t broke, it doesn’t have enough features yet.

The stepper motor wiring does not HAVE to be twisted. There are two reasons to do so -- one mechanical, one electrical. The twist helps mechanically strengthen the wiring. Electrically, it will help with emissions. Since the wires aren't twisted as pairs, but as a set, I don't know how much it would actually help with emissions though. You can buy all sorts of steppers with untwisting wires though.

Even if the cables are not pair twisted, it's still better then straight. The impedance will change slightly if you let them straight.
But I also think if you're not in the crazy EM environment, it should work without any issues and you shouldn't see any difference.

Thanks all, EM noise is the only thing I have been able to find as being negative so far and I cant find any screened 4 core cabling suitable for the continuous flexing, may have to rethink my idea.
