Prusa MK3S+ Firmware undefined behaviour

Hello,

I did my last print yesterday and everything was going well. A few hours later I rebooted my printer and since then the printer is litterally going crazy, I have no other words... The X axis started moving to the right without stopping and then being blocked in a corner. I rebooted everything, updated the firmware: 3.12.2 (the one here) and ran the calibration wizard. Fan test is ok but then the axis test was not passed as the X axis is moving extremely slowly and only a few centimeters. I tried to shift it manually but the axis is completely blocked. I tried it again after the shutting the printer down: everything ok for all axis. After a few experiments I noticed that if try moving the axis in the settings, all axis will be blocked. Tried removing the filament: not working either. What is going wrong ? Everything was perfectly ok during one year.

I don't think there is a building problem because as mentionned everything was perfectly ok the day before + if I shut the printer down, the axis is moving properly and the belt tension is perfectly ok.

What could I do ? Shall I check the cables ? Any help would be more than appreciated

Best regards, Joachim

First check that none of the plugs has shaken loose at the Einsy end.  Pull and replace all the plugs in case there is a poor connection interfering with the signals.

RE: Prusa MK3S+ Firmware undefined behaviour

Hello,

So I unmounted all the cables, and then plugged them again. The behaviour hasn't changed: the X-Axis remains firmly blocked when trying to move it with the settings. I have the feeling there is a short-circuit somewhere. I tried mounting only the strictly necessary cables for moving the X-axis:

So only the X-Axis calbe, the nozzle and the heat-bed cables are plugged, and still the X-axis won't move when the printer is powered.

I've also tried unloading the filament. I get the message to press the knob to unload the filament, but nothing happens. Same for loading the filament.

I really can't figure out from where is the problem coming, if it's from the HEINSY, or a damaged cable. But how is this even possible as I didn't touch anything sensible since my last print.

What would you recommend ? Buy a new HEINSY or a new set of cable ? I would prefer avoiding this is I don't even know where the problem is coming from and the error messages are not helping me out

Take care with this next test:  Label the motor wires so you don't mix them up.

Temporarily plug the X motor into the Y motor socket and vice versa.  Manually centre both X and Y axes and power up.  From the LCD menu, move the axes ... Does the problem move with the motor or stay with the socket?

Try with only one of the motors plugged in at a time.  Any difference?

If you have a multimeter check the voltages coming out of the power supply - do they match the designated values?

Cheerio,

I contacted the online technical upport and they recommended me to do the same... I did it but still nothing worked. In the end I made a factory reset and then somehow everything was working again...

So the error will never be figured out, but at least it works at the moment....
