Prusa i3 MK3S won't connect to any PC
When I attempt to connect my Prusa i3 MK3S to a PC (I've tried 3, two with Windows 10, one with Windows 11) I receive a device manager USB error. It states there was a problem with the device and it could not connect. It lists the device and error in Device Manager as "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)" on all machines. I can't connect at all using the software nor can I update the device drivers to correct the issue in Device Manager. I've also tried 3 different USB cables to make sure that isn't the issue.
My firmware is 3.8.1. I tried a firmware reset to shipping ready but that didn't help. Is there any way I can update the firmware via SD card to see if that makes any difference or has anyone encountered this issue before? I saw one post in the forums but it was never resolved.
Please help!
RE: Prusa i3 MK3S won't connect to any PC
Welcome!
Did you install the device driver with the full install of Prusa software?

You cannot update the firmware via SD card, you have to use PrusaSlicer: https://help.prusa3d.com/article/firmware-updating-mk3s-mk3s-mk3_2227
RE: Prusa i3 MK3S won't connect to any PC
Yes, I installed the drivers during installation. It still produces the device manager error. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. I can still print from SD card so the device seems to be functioning but there is something broken about the ability to communicate over USB.
RE:
can you check the LCD menu, and ensure that the internal raspberry pi function is turned off?
when the raspi option is turned on, the the serial communication is diverted to the RasPi port.

Good to know for the future, but I confirmed it Pi was turned off, turned off the printer, unplugged it, plugged it back in, turned it on with the USB connected and I am still getting the same error unfortunately. Really surprised no one else has ever had an issue with not being able to do a firmware update outside of a USB connection and that there isn't any sort of workaround. Any continued help would be appreciated.

Have you tried different USB cables?

Hve you googled
Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)

Yes, unfortunately I've tried all the fixes listed there and have done quite a bit of googling. For example, I've tried adding to the registry for the specific device entry to specified values that are supposed to help without it working, tried uninstalling drivers , reinstalling drives/software, windows update search, CHKdisk, changing cables, changing power management settings, unplugging the printer for an extended period of time, different computers, limited firmware reset to shipping setting, different cables, different usb ports, etc.

That being the case I fear you are left with the fact that the USB port on the printer is probably borked. I don't suppose it's still in warranty?

Maybe time to try Prusa support.
Log into your eshop account and click the ‘chat’ button in the lower right corner of the screen. If you have trouble connecting you may need to disable any ad blockers.
Cheers
