problem on startup MK3S

I'm in the process of getting the Octoprint raspberry pi 3b+ wired in and working using the gpio header. That may be relevant since I had to open the einsy control box to insert the pi cable. What is happening now, with or without the einsy-raspberry pi cable attached is that I get an error "External SPI flash W25X20CL is not responding.  After that goes away I get the info screen stating the Prusa I3 MK3S is ok, except the hotend temp starts climbing and reaches maxtemp accompanied by a solid beep.  I managed to get the firmware upgraded to 3.9.1 after booting but before it reached max temp.  I've checked to make sure all cables are seated. I even reseated both ends of the LCD cable. When the temp is rising I can press the selector knob to get the menu but the up/down control won't move the cursor.  I've run out of things to try short of replacing the electronics but, at this point I'm not sure if the problem is in the einsy, the lcd display or the wiring. Any ideas on how to proceed will be greatly appreciated.

You might have damaged the language ship on the Einsy Board.  I have one like that.  It still pints fine.

Do not plug or unplug cables while the printer is on and the mainboard is powered, especially the MMU2S signal cable and the IR filament sensor cable. The memory chip W25X20CL is possibly defective. If checking the wires and connectors did not change anything, I would turn to the prusachat.
