Printer stops printing but progress percentage continues to progress

I have a strange issue I am not sure if others have seen. The printer will stops printing, and the head fails to retract. It looks stuck over the print.

* The progress percentage continues to climb.

* The nozzle and bed go to zero.

* The y-axis is firm and unmovable.

* The extruder feels hot to the touch.

* The parts fan continues to run.

* The noctua fan stops running.

I have tried slicing in Slic3r, Simplify 3D, and Prusa Control. I have tried formatting the card. I have opened the gcode from the card on another computer to verify it is correct.

I am not sure where to go from here.

Were you printing from computer through the USB? Or attempt to connect to printer through the computer?

Printed from SD card. I did check the SD card in another computer and loaded the GCode in Prusa Control to see that it was complete.

Ok. So not I am getting an actual error when it stops printing.

Err: MINTEMP BED

Bed and nozzle both show temperatures that I am guessing are correct. Everything else about the stoppage is the same except that the noctua is running this time.

I'm guessing support from Prusa is needed here. Any debugging I should do first?

mintemp is fairly straight forward.

Either a wire is broken, or the thermistor has failed. (on the heat bed)

I would contact support to see how they want to go about it. (chat)

MAke sure the bed thermistor is still in place. The forum have alot of this where the thermistor have escaped from the tape.
I had this once.

Re: Printer stops printing but progress percentage continues to progress

I sent the following to [email protected] on Sunday. Is there a better way to get support? They had responded to another email the day before. But it went to spam and I started a new thread. So far no response. I had tried everything in that email except flashing the firmware which I did to no success. At this point almost every print ends with MINTEMP BED.

The details of the issue are very inconsistent. I have a video that demonstrates what typically happens.

In the video:
Nozzle stops moving
Nozzle temperature 210
Bed temperature 0
Progress continues to count
noctua on
parts on

Other times I have received an actual error: Err: MINTEMP BED

In this case the progress stops and the nozzle goes to 0 temperature.

Typically, the stoppage will look like the video. But it makes it farther into the print, both temperatures go to zero, the noctua will be off and parts fan on.

I have tried printing from SD as well as USB. Both produce the same stoppage. I looked at the temperature sensor under the bed; it seems to be in place.

Per request of Michele on chat support, I did swap the two cables leading to display. The results did not change.

I do not notice any wires loose or frayed.

I am attaching a few pictures. I don't know if any of that will help.

I hope you can help me get this issue resolved soon and have me back up and printing.

Your thermistor is not 'loose' mintemp means either the thermistor has failed, or one of the wires has failed. (Likely where the wires leave the print bed)

(A loose thermistor would throw 'thermal runaway')

Re: Printer stops printing but progress percentage continues to progress

I was able to reproduce something. Removed the wire clip housing, with the bed forward, and by moving the wires I was able to witness the bed temperature reading briefly drop to zero. I guess my options are to cut and solder in a new wire, buy a new thermistor, or wait for prusa.

Anyone have a suggested link on Amazon where I can buy one?

The first time I did this the screen crashed to gibberish before what appeared to be a reset of the machine, then a mintemp error. The second time it reacted more normally. I'm guessing the handling of this error has caused all of the strange combinations of occurrences I have seen.

Anyways....

I am having this exact same issue. The only difference is that the soldered wires on the bed connections are clearly good and putting together power.

My only guess is that maybe it is the bed thermistor on the underside. I do not see how to replace this.

Did you ever get this issue resolved? If so, what was the fix?

Issue resolved for me - It was the bed thermistor. Works after replacing with one from Amazon Mmei 5pcs NTC 3950 100K Thermistor with 1 Meter Wiring and Female Pin Head for RepRap 3D Printer Extruder Heated Bed pre-wired or Hot End)

Then checked the old thermistor on the multimeter and another unit and it works fine. Odd as I vene retapped and positioned it before replacing. Oh, well. No harm. No foul and on to printing again.
