Printer resetting it self/crashing.

My printer will just randomly restart, as if I've pressed the reset button.

I've been running the printer via octopi, and it worked perfectly for a while.

Sometimes this message show up:

Send: M27
Recv: start
Printer sent 'start' while already operational. External reset? Resetting line numbers to be on the safe side

Other times it's this:

Recv: ok T:57.1 /0.0 B:33.3 /0.0 T0:57.1 /0.0 @:0 B@:0 P:24.9 A:27.7
Send: M105
Communication timeout while idle, trying to trigger response from printer. Configure long running commands or increase communication timeout if that happens regularly on specific commands or long moves.

Send: M105
No response from printer after 3 consecutive communication timeouts, considering it dead. Configure long running commands or increase communication timeout if that happens regularly on specific commands or long moves.
Changing monitoring state from "Operational" to "Offline (Error: Too many consecutive timeouts, printer still connected and alive?)"
Connection closed, closing down monitor

I decided to try running it directly from my computer, which changed nothing.

The "resets" became more frequent fast. From the first to the second, several hours. Enough to finish a 8 hour print. Next was within an hour, and the next ones minutes. And then it would just restart in the middle of a restart, ending in just freezing.

I discovered that I could un-brick the printer by flashing the firmware. Which helped for like 10-12 hours, and then the same nonsense again.

I tried running it just of the sd-card. I used the one that came with the printer. Same problem. I even moved the printer to a grounded outlet.

Now when I try to connect the printer to pronterface I get this:

Connecting...
An×
Jþþÿ
Connecting...
I@IWÿ
6ÿþû
Connecting...
An×
aþü÷

This is me trying to connect to the printer three times. Everytime there is just random characters.

I tried factory reset too nothing. The last thing I tried was new USB cable(took me a while to track one down, those type b plugs are hard to find these days!). That changed nothing.

Oh, I couldn't find any loose wires or anything either.

I have seen this post on a problem that seems fairly similar. I did the steps they suggested, and it don't seem to have helped.

Do you have any suggestions to what caused this, and perhaps how to fix it?

RE: Printer resetting it self/crashing.

I had this issue and narrowed it down to ejecting the SD card via PrusaSlicer. Also having the computer attached to the printer via USB is a bad idea and should only be done for firmware updates unless you are using custom firmware. There are a massive amount of issues with windows and USB ports being used over an extended time. Some of these issues can be solved with disabling USB selective suspending but you can run into a bunch of other little issues as well and if your not comfortable doing registry changes on your PC you should just swap to using the SD card. Just remember never eject the SD card via PrusaSlicer it caused me a litany of issues till I narrowed it down to that.

A small list of issues caused by ejecting via PrusaSlicer. Random crashes and restarts, Corrupted disk partition, failure to load files on printer, Corrupted Gcode, This one really screwed with my printer and even cause it to crash into the build plate leaving a nasty gouge.

@precursor

Sorry, been busy for a while.

The printer has been connected through the USB to a Pi. It ran fine for a while, before it started to mess up. Is the connection to a PI as precarious as the connection to a computer?
