appie.d could you post a picture of the heatsink? Thanks.

Doesn't look too bad to me. But what do i know 🙂 I just got my first printer 2.5 weeks ago, so it's all new to me. Apparently it shouldn't go this deep.

You could consider a 0.6mm nozzle... Less clogging, much greater speed and details depends on the layer hight you define.
I switched to 0.6 and never looked back.

I bought one a week ago, a metal micro swiss one. Didn't work with it yet. Currently use a 0.4 Micro Swiss.
How detailed do you go then? I'm sure there's a limit of where it won't work anymore?

Anyway, it's probably not the reason we have this issue 😉

Smaller nozzle = higher posibillity of clogging

I know. But (nozzle) clogging isn't the issue. 😉

You don't notice any limitation in print quality. You can go super detail with a 0.6 nozzle?

Were there any updates for this? I just started having the same issues with Clear PLA from Fillamentum.

I've replaced the PTFE tube, checked the gears, tried slower, faster, hotter, cooler and the jam only happens after a lot of retractions then I have to unload, snip and reload and it prints fine for a bit.

I have the MK3S upgrade on order so will be trying the new extruder design when it arrives.

My issue turned out not an issue with the printer itself.
The new MicroSwiss nozzle which was suppose to be 0.4mm diameter (also on the packaging), but appeared to be smaller after very zoomed in inspection. This caused too much pressure on the extruder (since i was printing with 0.15/0.2mm), which caused the extruder clicking and failing prints.
After receiving another one as replacement, which really was 0.4mm, it was fine again.

I’m having the same problem. My MK3 is 1 year old but started having this problem 2months ago. I changed the PTFE tube in the extruder last night, thinking it might have pulled up. When I re-started the printer the extruder failed to heat. I did another restart and still no heat. I wiggled the wires to the extruder and finally got it to heat. I ordered a replacement 24v heater and thermocouple as it looks like I have an issue with the wiring. My prints would start out great, but after a few hours the extruder would clog, and gears grind the filament. I think I loose heat, causing the clog. It might be the board, but I’m starting with the cheaper heat element. This could also be buggy software, but that seems remote. Wondering if this isn’t the cause of the problem with other folks.....

Does anyone have a life expectancy for the heat element?

Thanks,
Jon

I had this problem and it was the filament. I tried other filaments and it worked. I finally put that filament into a dehydrator for about 6 hours and it finally worked. Same thing my extruder would start clicking.
The other issue I have was also with one particular filament. Whenever I tried to print with this one filament on anything but .2mm height it jammed. .15 or lower it would not work and I could never get it to work. .2mm no problem. anything small just would not work.
Hope this helps.

My MK3S kit arrived Monday. Had it built by Tuesday ... still can't print anything. First layer PLA goes down perfect, then when 2nd layer starts, so does the gear clicking. Filament extrusion is spotty at best and print ends up looking like the hook side of velcro. I have tried the PLA supplied in the kit and PETG borrowed from a friend. I have replaced PTFE tube, tried higher temps ... calibration print looks good ... I can load and unload filament without issue. Oh, and I had to disable the filament sensor, if I start a print with it on, constant load and unload... print never starts. Tinkering is one thing, brand new $800 machine that I can't print Buddy on is a little more than upsetting. Sent message to Prusa, still waiting to hear back. I am starting to regret ordering the multi material addon ...

contact prusa online chat system 24/7 support
you can wait many days for an email response they are set up to use online chat as primary support
log into your account on one of the prusa store pages and in the bottom right corner you will see the Chat system box click in it enter your Invoice number for you Prusa and start the chat system they do an excellent job and will take good care of you.

the best prep for your bed is to wash it with warm water and dawn dish soap (in the UK use Fairy liquid) by using a wad of clean kitchen paper towel dampen with warm water and put a dollop of Dawn on the pad and scrub (i do it twice at 90 deg to each other holding the plate by the edge as it is a phonograph record rinse under running water and dry with clean paper towel keep touching only by the edge... I do this every other day of printing with both kinds of plate.

then set your live z with this method https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting-f62/life-adjust-z-my-way-t2981.html it is far better than the zig zag method in the firmware

Re: Printer jamming (clicking sound) after a while printings. TRIED EVERYTHING I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO FIND, WHAT NOW!?

I found the solution for me, and it’s something many of you should look into. My heating element would stop heating for a short time, just long enough to solidify, or slow down the extrusion of filament and skip a layer or 2 or 3. Some times the I3 would continue extruding a rats nest, other times the extrude would stop completely. These were 5-6 hr prints that would look great, then fail 2-3 hours in at random.

I replaced the heater and thermistor after noticing the heater failing to heat one day and had success ever since. The MMU2 is working as it should, completing prints, instead of leaving a rats nest.

This was a hard problem to diagnose, as the heater worked most of the time.
Hope this helps someone.....

Jon
