PINDA Probe problem

I was starting a print and the printer was doing the mesh leveling, but on the second point, the printer reported the probe did not trigger. Doing some research, I found the show endstop setting and used that to check the probe. It does change from a 0 to a 1, but I have to put the metal source almost right on the probe. I was noticing the light on the probe was on and saw a comment that it goes out when triggered. I did see that happen. But now, the probe will not trigger when in use. I tried running the calibration wizard and when I came to testing the Z axis, it ran the hot end into the bed without the probe triggering.

Has anyone else seen this type of problem?

I had an intermittent wire just behind where you secure the cables to the back of the extruder. I had to wiggle the cable to see the light go on/off. I spliced in a piece of wire and it worked fine until I later replaced the probe.

It's not an intermittent problem. The probe does work. It just seems it has no sensitivity any more. I practically have to touch the probe with a metal tool for it to detect. Probably just need to replace the probe, but only had it for 4 days and will probably have to wait a couple weeks for the replacement. 🙁

I tried running the calibration wizard and when I came to testing the Z axis, it ran the hot end into the bed without the probe triggering.

The PINDA sensor is too high and it has to be lowered. Release the screw that holds the sensor and turn the sensor for half a turn clockwise, so the sensor is lowered 0.5 mm. Then the calibration should work again.

The probe height is fine as it has been working and it didn't slip. I measured it and it is still in the same place when I assembled the printer. It is the sensitivity of the probe that has changed.

I'm not so sure about it. My PINDA sensor responds approximately 1 mm from a metal object that I hold under the sensor.
So, adjust the height of the sensor and I think it will work again.

So, adjust the height of the sensor and I think it will work again.

I have reset the height of the probe 3 times now. It is trigger at about 0.4mm from the bed. That is too close. According to the assembly directions, it should be triggering about 1mm. So there is something wrong here.

Which firmware version are you running? Is the steel sheet on the bed? Are you in the US? There is a forum user who bought a lot of probes and might sell one to you for cheaper than Prusa (shipping included)

I am on the latest firmware. Steel sheet is on the bed. Yes, in the US. And I am not paying for a new probe. I have had the printer for less than a week so Prusa will replace it.

Well then, 3.2.0-RC1, the latest firmware is famous for failing in xyz calibration and driving the nozzle into the bed.

You should install the latest non RC firmware

To clarify, I am on the latest RELEASED version. Personally, I don't concider beta firmware as latest since it is not released as final.

Blame the probe for not working right. 😀

I finally heard from Prusa, answered their questions, and now waiting to hear back.

I suddenly started having the same issue. My stats show 15d of print time with no issues and all of sudden the second z-calibration point is failing. Odd thing is the calibration routines for z and xyz all complete without errors. It goes through the whole dealio with the four calibration points, the z calibration successfully adjusts the height for the nine points and so on. But as soon as you try to print, do the first-layer calibration, or manually run the mesh bed leveling it chokes on the second calibration point.

I tried upgrading to 3.2.1.576, downgrading to 3.1.3, moving the probe up and down and all around but all that did was change the nozzle height, the probe was still zeroing at about 2-4mm off the bed (what I consider normal).

The probe seems to be triggering properly when a piece of metal is brought close. Indeed, when starting a print, the probe light flickers as it calibrates the first point but when calibrating the second, it doesn't even try to lower to the bed. It's odd, the probe is a solid centimeter above the bed after moving over from point one and then immediately starts climbing to the top and back down before showing the "bed leveling failed" error.

My Mk2s is doing the same thing. The issue is that Prusa is incorrectly using a proximity sensor for a job that it was not designed to do.
I thought I was going insane, but it all started with inconsistencies with first layer Z height. The auto routine would work, but I had to do adjust the Z height every single print. Now the printer is failing XYZ and Z calibration routines. All while trying to print the parts for my 2.5 upgrade which WOULD fix the issue, except Prusa never stated that we had to print the parts ourselves. That's what I get for being an early adopter. Such bull crap.
Everyone praises Prusa, what I see is a bunch of hacks to get an inferior design to properly work, all being marketed as a feature to sell you on. If the heated bed was perfectly flat, you wouldn't need to do Z leveling routine every single print, and without needing that, you wouldn't need a stupid proximity sensor being used beyond its design specifications. This is the last Prusa product I ever buy.

Ok, problem is fixed, sorry for my ill advised rant on the previous post. My uprights shifted slightly, from all the hours of printing, vibration must of done its thing. I did install the 2.5 kit probe as well. I am now printing the extruder parts.
