Path to working filament sensor

The filament sensor on my MK3? is useless and has to be disabled to keep from constantly tripping the filament change.  While watching the sensor output, it's clear that _any_ movement of the filament causes it to flip state.  I am using the older rev 0.1b sensor.

I would switch it out for the rev 0.4 sensor, but the version warnings on the purchase page "It is ONLY compatible with the MK2.5S and MK3S/MK3S+. It is NOT compatible with the MK2.5 and MK3" give me pause.

In 2017 I sold my MK2 and purchased a MK3.  I then purchased the MK3 MMU2.0 upgrade kit (which I _think_ included a MK3-MK3S upgrade).  I could never get the MMU to work reasonably and removed it.  I now have bags of different E-axis parts and cannot comfortably identify what's on the printer or what's in the bags.  Everything about my current printer works great except the filament sensor, which I really want to have working.

My Questions:

- Is there a straightforward way to identify which (MK3, MK3S, Frankenstein) E-axis extruder is on my printer now?

- What/where is the most advanced E-axis extruder available for the Prusa MK3X platform? (I'm happy to print parts.)

- What is the most reliable filament sensor configuration available for the Prusa MK3X platform (and does it have dependencies?) (example: 0.4 sensor on MK3S extruder)?

- Should I just buy the 'Original Prusa i3 MK3/S to MK3S+ upgrade kit'? to get to the best available filament sensor performance?

Thanks!

I would buy

I would buy the Mk3S+ upgrade.  It is more reliable than the sensor you currently have.  The upgrades are worth the cost.

Thanks!

Thanks, I purchased one of the Rev 0.4 sensors and cable and printed a full set of the up to date MK3S+ extruder parts.  I  had a weird mix of versions (C1, D1, R1, etc.) in my parts bin and on the printer, so I'll start fresh with a clean MK3S+ rebuild.
