Odd size for hex socket head screw holding in heater cartridge
On my MK3 E3d hot end, 1.5mm too small, 2mm to large. Has anybody seen this and what is the solution? I have to replace my cartridge...
RE: Odd size for hex socket head screw holding in heater cartridge
One of the hex keys you got with your Mk3 should be correct. I think it is 1.7 or 1.9.
RE: Odd size for hex socket head screw holding in heater cartridge
The E3D site says it should be 1.5mm. I have all that came with the printer plus several sets of my own, nothing fits...

... is there some melted plastic stuck in it? Might need to find a way to get that out then... (heat gun/dental pick?)
If your hotend doesn't have a silicone sock, strings that get blown back are directly inline with that screw head and murphy dictates they will catch and melt onto it...
RE: Odd size for hex socket head screw holding in heater cartridge
I'll double check, but as IK mostly print black, black on black is hard to see. I do use a sock, but the block is very "dirty". Even so, that would make the size 2mm, not 1.5mm as E3D says.

It could feel that way if the wrench isn't seating deep enough to engage well. The only other thing I can think of is the screw might be stripped. Have a look with a mirror and a bright light?

Finally, totally uninstalled, there was some plastic in the socket. Got it undone with a 2mm hex key provided by Prusa. Have a new cartridge on order. Thanks for the help. Guess I'm too old to troubleshoot things anymore.

Everyone has "derp" moments sometimes.... 🙂
Glad you got it sorted.
