Noob question

Hi all i have a bit of a noob question about adding super lube to the smooth rods bearings
is it required that i take the bearings off the rods and then fill them or would i be able to get away with putting some on the rods and slide them over it a bit. or could i use some sort of machine oil and put a few drops of it in the bearings and slide them around.
I really want to avoid taking my printer apart. any suggestions for oil and lube would be greatly appreciated.

*edit*
Would this work on the bearings? and i just add superlube to the threaded rods?

Re: Noob question

This appears to be a solvent based penetrating oil, I would be concerned about affecting the seals on the linear bearings...

I grease the bearings before installation, and use light oil afterwards, I use light oil on the leadscrews

Re: Noob question

I just use a fine machine oil and apply it to the rods and screws (place paper towels under the steppers for the screws as the oil will leak through them and eff up your nice antique wooden buffet, ask me how I know 🙂 )
The stuff I use was intended for fishing reels and has a very nice applicator needle though generic 3 in one machine oil would be just as good.
Cheers,
Jon

I actually have a pint can of Nye fine sperm whale oil that was caned before WW1 it is still one of the finest possible fine instrument oils will never go rancid or change properties (well not never but a long time... not until the las thirty years have modern synthetic oils equaled it.... nasa used it in the space programs... but the can of whale oil is for looking at and not using 🙄
