New update seems worse than before?

So I’m not sure if this is on the machine end or the prusaslicer end, but I’ve noticed some definite cons after updating the firmware and slicer:

1. By default prusaslicer will lay down an initial layer 5 degrees higher for better initial adhesion before going to the desired print temp for the rest of the print, which is nice. What I don’t like is how the MK3S seems to handle that now; before it just kept printing and gradually decreased the temp to the desired, but now instead the temperature plummets enormously as it does a fast circle of the skirt again and then works its way up to the desired. This is definitely a con in my book, even though I mostly print PLA, having a giant 15+ degree temp drop before slowly working its way up really can disrupt things since depending on the brand, all of a sudden you’ll be underextruding quite a bit.

2. The fans seem a lot noisier as well. Granted I’m not sure if this is from normal wear and tear, but for example today I was watching a print and the first layer went down fine with minimal noise. But all of a sudden when things sped up (and the beforementioned temperature drop occurs), the fan really revs up and remains noisier than before even  after the new target temperature is reached. It seems kinda odd it would be that much noisier when the net temp change is -5.

So anyone else running into these issues? Any fixes besides downgrading back to an older firmware?

Did you do a nozzle PID calibration after updating firmware?

@charles-h13

Sorry for not getting back sooner, it's firmware 3.8.0 and prusaslicer 2.1.

@tim-m30

Not sure what that is? I mean I haven't changed my nozzle or anything at all at any rate.

There are issues with 3.8.0 regarding stored EPROM values. I'm not suggesting they are the cause of your specific problems.

It is best practice for 3.8.0 and 3.8.0 based firmware branches to do a factory reset with data removal from EPROM as there have been a number of  reports of weird behaviour without. You need to run through a complete calibration cycle though if you wipe the stored data.
