Need help - prints are warping, getting the nozzle dirty (not quite a BOD)

Hi Community,

I purchased my printer with a TON of Prusa Filament in December.  After having the printer work perfectly since then, yesterday I got my defect using a newly opened spool of "Gentlemen's Grey" PLA.  The first print, I used the default 215/60 from PrusaSlicer, and by selecting the unmodified "Prusament PLA".  Print Settings were 0.15mm on a 0.4 stock nozzle.  I realize now that may be part of the problem not using a .25 nozzle.

I call my print a defect and not the blob of death as that didn't really happen (there is just a small amount of blob on the nozzle).  What appears to have happened is it appears the bed warped the print, it raised slightly from the bed, and the nozzle hit it.  When I looked at the printer, there was stringing and the nozzle was moving the print.  It could be thats when the warping happened as well (from the temperature of the nozzle), but I'm not sure.

Here is a picture of the print.

I removed the nozzle, and I am currently soaking it in acetone as it looks pretty dirty now.

Any ideas what could be going wrong?  Could there be something wrong with the filament? was it sitting too long in its shrink wrap?

Hi Ian,

It could be something as simple as your build plate needing cleaning.

I take My build plate to the sink and wash it thoroughlt, with hot water, a little dish soap, and a new kitchen sponge (I reserve one for use on the printer so that it doesn't get contaminated with grease off other dishes)

then I rinse well with HOT water, and dry immediately, using plain paper towels.

regards Joan

I used a similar looking sponge 🧽 awhile ago with Dawn.  It left swirl marks on my plate. 😱

I just finished a cold pull, cleaning the nozzle with acetone and topped it off with a first layer recalibration.

I am currently printing the Prusa logo and it looks good.

After ever 2 or 3 prints, I use alcohol wipes and let it evaporate with the preheat for PLA.

I’ll test my larger print tonight and see if it fubar’s again, it might just be something with the design although as you can see from the pictures, it’s just a bottom lid (flat) for an enclosure…. Nothing complex.

It left swirl marks on my plate.

Use a clean sponge, rinse with plenty of HOT water.

Cheerio,

I managed to get it to complete a print, but still getting warping.  It almost looks like the bed's too hot, but I've tried on 215/50 and 215/60.  I'm currently printing on the standard PLA Silver (brand new spool) to try another filament.
