My E axis won't budge.

This is in reference to the Prusa I3 Mk3s.

Hi y'all,

I've run into trouble with my extruder motor after working on the extruder unit. The reason for working on the unit is because the heat block was loose which resulted in  molten filament leaking over the hot end itself and onto the build plate and prints below. To fix this issue, all that I did was heat up the hot end and screw it into the extruder unit until tight. During this operation there was no sign of anything going being affected by the hot end being screwed back in but after I tried immediately loading filament in, I noticed that the extruder motor wasn't running. I investigated this further by trying to move it with the "move axis" option under the settings tab but still nothing. Following that, I disabled all steppers and tried to physically make the motor shaft turn to check for difficulties or obstructions jamming the motor but the shaft turned just fine. As a final test I went ahead and plugged the extruder motor into the Y-axis port and the Y-axis connector into the E-port to see if maybe the motor was dead. With the E-motor plugged into the Y-port I was able to make the motor run through the "move axis" option  but I could not get the Y-motor to run when it was plugged into the E-port. With this information I have deduced that the root of the problem must lie within the connection port or the Einsy-Rambo. I read somewhere else that somebody had solved this problem by flashing the firmware to the printer again so I tried that and the motor still didn't want to run when plugged back into its E-port. Next I factory reset the printer completely and still have gotten nothing out of the E-motor. What should my next course of action be?

RE: My E axis won't budge.

With all the steps you did it really sounds like a problem with the Einsy board.

I would take the board out and carefully examine it. Maybe you can see something like a lose contact.

@baklin

Sounds good, I'll proceed to do that and update y'all on the status of the board.

@baklin

Just spoke to Prusa customer support and showed them videos of the issue and they came to the same consensus as you, so as soon as my replacement Einsy comes in I'll go ahead and see if that really was the issue. What still confuses me is how the board could be the problem after just tightening my hot end. Pure coincidence?
