MK3S - X axis calibration error in firmware 3.8.0

Hi,

Just to let you know, I just took the extruder out of my MK3S to replace the PTFE tube after some serious clogging. After re-assembly I also upgraded to the latest firmware 3.8.0.

On the self-test I got the X axis calibration error, checked the setup but couldn't figure out why.

Downgraded to 3.7.2: problem solved.

Something just grates at me, solving a diagnostic message out of current firmware by dropping back to an earlier release.

I wish one of you folks would contact support and let them help you figure out what 3.80 is complaining about.

And if you do find what it is - come back and let us know!

I'm having the same problem after upgrading to 3.8.0.  Thought it would be worth while to recalibrate before setting up sheet profiles.  Doing autohome got me through the axis test but the XYZ calibration started dragging around the sheet of paper so I had to abort.  Downgrading to 3.7.2 now to see if I can get things going again.

Prusa refuses to do ANY regression testing. They leave it up to users to find bugs and report them. Since 90% of users don't report bugs, they get missed.  I can't fathom how Prusa makes these product management decisions because they are so expensive to their business.

Yep - a pet peeve - and when I've discussed this with a dev, the claim was they do test, but when I pressed for HOW they did regression testing, the silence was palpable.

Oh: and the simple fact they are giving away a printer kit to the person who reports the most bugs at a release is a hint they aren't willing to pay for proper testing.

I read two different issues in this thread. BOTH must be solved if you are having trouble.

1. Going from 3.7.x to 3.8.0 does not reliably clear old EEPROM settings that interfere with 3.8.0 calibration and self-testing. This may have been addressed in 3.8.1RC. I see they added a new EEPROM clearing method to fully empty things out.

Always do a factory reset and DATA ERASE after flashing firmware. That does clear things out.

2. homas-b99 Your PINDA is also mounted too high. First factory reset and clear data. Clean your nozzle tip. With power OFF lower carriage until nozzle touches plate. Set PINDA to 0.8 mm above plate. Raise carriage all the way to top. Turn on printer. Raise carriage with panel knob until it brrts against top stops. Then do XYZ.
