MK3S pauses mid print to unload filament

I am reposting a thread I started a couple days ago. Mods, please be faster approving my posts. I know I'm new, but I'm just looking for help. I'd like to get an answer before the thread dies again.

I have a MK3S that I recently upgraded with the MK3-Mk3S kit. It has a bug where mid-print, it will pause, move the extruder to a corner and run the change filament routine. The printer has a full roll of filament, there is no break in the filament. After I turned off Autoload Filament, the printer developed an additional behavior where it pauses to extrude a small pile of filament in the middle of a print before resuming, like a sick puppy soiling a rug.

I can print with the sensor turned off, but that isn't a solution. I paid for a new sensor and I'd like to work.

Things I have tried to no effect:

- Turned Filament Autoload off

- Gone through the Knowledge Base procedure to disassemble the hot end. The filament door moves freely and there are no obstructions in the path.

- The sensor page correctly changes value when filament is loaded and unloaded.

- Re-flashed firmware to 3.8.1 (current release build)

-Changed filament types

-Turned the filament sensor on and off in firmware

-Unplugged and re-plugged the filament sensor at both ends

-Printed the included batman G-Code successfully (With sensor turned off.) thank you to niloc.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thank you

David,
the filament sensor on the mk3S is a little touchy and difficult to fault find, because you only ever see the filament sensor status after the event.

I soldered a 5volt LED between 5 volts and the output pin,  which gives me immediate status all of the time I have left the cover off, so that you can see which pins the 5Volt LED is soldered to

was 8 minutes to approve your post and reply to it,  having taken time to search out links to LED's fast enough for you?

Some folk print a spacer to go between the filament sensor and the extruder body,

or

if you turn the filament sensor off whilst you print these spacers, the extruder should not stop for a poop!

I spent 6 hours waiting for someone to approve a post last time. Forgive my indignation, but that sort of lag has the effect of killing a conversation. How many posts do I need to make before they no longer require approval?

That's a clever solution to being able to see the problem happen in realtime. However, having eliminated most of the mechanical points of failure, I'm left to conclude that either it's a faulty chip, a bad cable, or the PETG I used to print the lever is too glossy. I guess I'll try re-printing the lever.
