Just print a spare first so if things go haywire you can just replace the part?

Prusa uses different designations for their self printed parts,I don' know whether C1 equates to R4 or not.

On a related note, I just saw there's an R5 variant on the github as of seven minutes ago which has been reinforced. So just print that instead and call it done.

https://github.com/prusa3d/Original-Prusa-i3/tree/MK3S/Printed-Parts

It looks like the r5 variant would be less likely to sag. Anyone test this yet?  I still think there might be warping around the heat break where to extruder body and cover come together, but that shouldn't effect print quality.

Good advice even without any ongoing issues.

If you have only one printer, have an full set of plastic part spares tucked away for that unforeseen disaster.

Dude. It was seven minutes old when I posted. Nobody had even started *printing* it yet. Just print it yourself and gain some printing experience rather than waiting on others to do it for you.

Ouch, a little fast to be critical.  Sorry, I didn't pay close attention to the timestamps on the posts (timezone was off for my profile).  I don't mind printing myself, just away from my printer for the weekend.

I'm so triggered now. I thought this was a "safe" place. 😎

Sorry, it's easy to get a little snarky at times when you've read the forums over a longer period and see the same sort of questions over and over and/or someone appears to not have read a message in its entirety. I swear sometimes I've seen a topic on "solving problem X" be one of the first ones on the page, which has been around for a weeks/months, immediately followed by someone new posting "I haz problem x, halp" right below it... 🤬

I try not to reply when I sense the snark-o-meter moving but that one slipped through the cracks... 🤐

Not a problem and I completely understand. I noticed the problem yesterday on my printer and I'm glad there's already a possible solution.

I reported this issue on Github and they added the part on Saturday. I printed it twice - just in case, have printed about 7 or 8 hours worth of PETG, Colorfabb XT and PLA - XT prints at 260 so fine so far. To be fair original issue took 6-7 weeks to materialise so will be a while til I know if its resolved the issue.  Will keep an eye on the angle of the probe

Just a heads up, they emailed me some kind of R5 parts, which seems to be beefed up a bit. Maybe fixed version? Wish us ALL luck... I'm going to have to swap some parts, print em, then swap em again, and test the PINDA for drift in Pronterface.

Definitely not our imaginations 😉

EDIT: Oh DERP, I misread what you said.... ignore me.... LoL. Apparently I need TWO cups of coffee today.

RE: MK3S part melted

I chatted with Prusa support yesterday regarding the files for the R5 extruder parts that are now available on github.  I was told that Prusa does not support those as of yet and do not support files that aren't already readily available on their site.  I am sure they will have better extruder parts in the future which better support the PINDA probe and are more heat resistant too but that could take months.  They updated the assembly manual in May to include improved parts for the heatbed cable clip and cover where the screw doesn't protrude through the top of the cover and as of yet, they still don't have the updated parts or STL files available.

I wish to print and try out the R5 parts without having to first install the R4 or C1 version then the R5 one later, but my printer is now inoperable as I can no longer get the broken PINDA probe holder to stay on using glue, even long enough to print something for a few hours.

Had a chat with support. They said it’s nothing to worry about....

linked this thread but I don’t think they want to address it directly

I was printing PETG temps when mine went kaput...and this was all PETG too... The bundled upgrade PETG, actually... which I doubt is actually their Prusament. I found Inland stuff that printed better. Might've been a bad batch??  Not sure. I simply don't know....

Between 210 and 225 for Pla prior to the break. I then printed at 230-245 for PETG after the break. Ironically, gorilla glue held it in place for nearly three weeks and for many hours of higher temperature printing before it gave way again and wouldn’t stay glued after that. I had bought a replacement part from Prusa during that time and had printed one then too, this was before finding out that stl files for reinforced parts were available on github, but at that point, I was unable to print them due to this issue.

RE: MK3S part melted

That looks like it was glued. Superglue does not hold up at higher temperatures...  I'm not surprised it broke off again.

RE: MK3S part melted

Sure, I didn’t expect the glue to hold permanently. Prusa support suggested to use superglue to print new parts with in the interim.
