Mk3S+ Nozzle Cleaning?

My problem is the outside of the nozzle, not the inside. I stated a print of 6 or so parts and during the first layer the filament came unstuck and unfortunately I wasn't watching as I should have been. It was PLA and a whole bunch of it caked around the nozzle. Will it pop off when it's dry and hard? If not how do I go about cleaning this up. I usually print only one two parts at a time but I got cocky.

Heat the nozzle THEN TURN OFF and it should clean off while hot - use pliers, tweezers and maybe a wire brush but be careful not to break any of the wires that are attached in the area.

Cheerio,

Yes, like @Diem says: Best to clean the nozzle when the nozzle is hot. Use fine-tipped tweezers and carefully remove most of the PLA. Then use a small wire brush to get the remnants off and avoid the thermistor and heating element cables when doing so. It helps if you move the z-axis so that you have a good amount of room to work underneath the extruded head. I also recommend to put a protective cloth underneath so you won’t damage the table or the metal print sheet.

Usually comes off easily when hot as diem and thomas-14 explained. I had one MegaBlob(tm) with wood filament though where I ended up having to take the hotend out of the extruder assembly to clean it outside.

Usually, though when I was removing a blob on my Ender 3 I broke a wire to the thermister which required replacing the hot end.  Fortunately the hot end on an Ender 3 is $17.

It seems to be working fine now, though it's not looking pristine. Grabbing the PLA with pliers or tweezers didn't seem to work. Most successful was a paper towel folded enough times. I suspect a kitchen scrubbing pad would be good.

Thanks again

I use bits of corrugated cardboard from old boxes while the nozzle is hot.  Just cut out a bunch of strips about an inch wide and keep them near the printer.  Use the edge of the strips.  Doesn't damage the coating on my nozzle X like a wire brush would.  Works equally well on a standard brass nozzle though.
