MK3S: Magnetic Parts
I hope this is the correct category to post the question, I would say it is mainly hardware related.
I recently started trying to embed magnets into my prints. By embedding I mean pausing the print at a certain level, inserting magnets into prepared hollowings and then proceed to print over the magnet. I thought that this is pretty common technique, not only with magnets but also with nuts, weights or other objects.
However using magnets raises a problem: The extruder/hotend unit of the MK3S apparently is not non-magnetic. Which means if the inserted magnets are not sticking to the magnetic sheet or are secured by a tight fit or some glue, the extruder will just draw the inserted magnets back out of the printed part as soon as it hovers over them.
Is there a solution to this problem? I was wondering if I did something wrong, since so many people recommend using this technique but I can't really find any posts describing or solving this particular but critical problem.
Thanks in advance!
P.S.: Am I allowed to post a link to a printables creation as an example?
RE: MK3S: Magnetic Parts
Which type of nozzle are you using? A steel nozzle perhaps? Are the magnets sticking to the nozzle or to another part of the print head? Check with a magnet where the magnetic part is.
If you use a brass nozzle you should be fine. The heater block is aluminium and also non-magnetic.
I have used this technique successfully with my MK3S+.
RE: MK3S: Magnetic Parts
Either a brass or stainless steel nozzle, (if available), should solve the problem. I would think the hot nozzle would lose it's magnetic properties but I guess it doesn't get hot enough to do that.

Superglue is an easy solution for that problem.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
