MK3S / IR filament sensor not working

Hello - I cannot get the filament sensor to work on my Mk3S (kit): always the "ERROR: Filament sensor is not responding, please check connection" message ; FW is 3.7.1-2266

- sensor cable connection checked ok, on the lower pins row of the connector,

- the sensor got replaced with a new one (ordered from Prusa); no change

- the 3 red/black/white wires are ok (continuity test)

Suggestions on what I should check next ?
I have a MMU2 kit waiting; I understand that I will not be able to use it until the sensor works ?

Philippe

One nagging thought....

You are running MK3S firmware not MK3?

Having firmware for wrong model would mess things up.

how are you testing it?

I would try removing it from the extruder, connecting it to the cable, going to the support page for sensors and watching ti status while putting something opaque like a screwdriver blade in the gap

in Support / sensor state I get IR: N/A

and settings / Fil.sensor is [N/A]

with both sensors I have: the original one from the kit and the replacement purchased from Prusa.

Verify that the cabling is correct. Some users have reported receiving a filament cable with its pins / wires inserted into the wrong positions of the plugs. The wire positions should match the below...

Look at the wires and which pin positions they occupy in the jacks.

Don't be confused by the glowing thing on my MK3S sensor. That's an LED mod that was added to make my sensors easier to test. https://bunnyscience.dozuki.com/Guide/Bunny+and+Bear+(BNBSX)+MKS3+Geared+Extruder+Assembly/2#s84

Note that the OP said he was using lower row of pins.

Your picture shows the connector on the top row of pins.

I know I had mine on the wrong row; fortunately it does no damage.

It is the photo angle from below. The row is the bottom.

Guy you nailed it !

I upgraded the FW and bingo - works like a champ.

I ordered the printer as a Mk3 and received after a loooong while a Mk3 with S upgrade ; I missed the point that the FW could have been different ....

Many thanks

@philippe-v2

I know this thread is quite old, but I think I'm having the same problem. I ordered a MK3 about a year agobut I received a MK3S because they were just releasing it. Was this the same with you. My sensor only worked for a little while and I did exactly the same steps as you. I tested the cables for continuity and pin order and bought a new sensor, but it still doesn't work. Did you flash MK3 firmware?
