Mk3 - swapping magnetic bed plate

Most of what I print is tricky to remove from the bed without damage.  Most fine parts need the bed to cool to or very close to ambient for this to be reliably successful.  This destroys print production rates as after each run there's that delay, even if the plate is removed from the printer to increase air flow, and then of course the re-heat delay.

I had hoped to largely get round this by using more than one magnetic bed plate, and swapping, BUT..................

My first plate, recovered more than once now with Prusa supplied material, ("Gold" colour from PE film over original silver spring plate) is 1.43mm

My second plate (black) is 1.23mm as supplied

And my most recent purchase (black)  is 1.17mm as supplied.

(Accurate calibrated calipers, measurements are consistent)

These differences are enough to completely destroy a fast swap without a change of  "Z" setting, and any way I know to do that is far too disruptive and lengthy to get to be reliable to contemplate.  The last thing that I need or want is to risk loss of the hard won reliability achieved by lengthy tuning of  "Z"  height.

OR, am I missing something??

Hi Bad Raven,

could you try a different approach...
Print your thin model,
when finished, remove the build plate and place it to one side, to cool, perhaps place it on a second cold build plate to accelerate cooling,
then Spray / dribble some Isopropyl Alcohol around the base of the model on the build plate,
leave it a short while, and you should find that the IPA soaks under the print, and makes it easier to remove.

regards Joan

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

The current printer firmware allows you to store different z offsets for different sheets.  Once you have them all dialled in in each 'slot' then you should just be able to select the correct slot for the correct sheet.

Thanks, had not thought of using IPA as a release agent!

First introduced in printer firmware v3.8.0  https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/releases/tag/v3.8.0   - Steel Sheet Profiles.

one of life's pervertibles...
IPA can be used for de icing car windows, releasing hot melt glue, sanitising injuries, killing bacteria, heating things up, cleaning stains
and many other fun things...
