If the room lights are flashing in sync to the clicking, I would examine the circuit you are on. I had this happen at my mother's house, with older wiring. It's an indication that the current capability of that circuit is not quite able to sustain the Prusa power draw without dipping the voltage. It may just be an annoyance you can live with, but depending on how far the voltage droop is you could damage other electronics on the circuit.

Yes definitely check the circuit. If its an older house built around the '70's and '80's check the wiring. At that time in the US a lot of contactors were using aluminum wiring on homes they built.

Has anyone seen any actual improvement in this with firmware updates? Mine is still just as bad as it always has been. 🙄

Same problem with my mk3. Annoying flickering and clicking and PSU is hot. My circuit is fine, new house, good cables. Cheap power supply. How come that Prusa's PSU doesn't have a fan? Shame Prusa. Such a disappointment... Tomorrow I'll try to connect it to a real PSU, Mean Well NES-350-24 24V 350W.

I can confirm, I have the same noise on 3.1.1-201 firmware.

I personally am having a hard time believing they'll solve it via a firmware update. Mine emits a high frequency tone after having printed for about an hour and I got reply from support that this will be solved via the software. Seems just like cheapo power supplies to me.

I have the power supply "clicking" and "rattling" issue too. I am running firmware 3.1.2. I see there is a separate thread for the rattling and will seek help there. Has the "clicking" been resolved by Prusa?

it just clicks... short of buying your own power supply i doubt it will be replaced. the replacement will do the same. firmware cannot and will not ever fix it.

Count me as someone that has the clicking powersupply issue. I was also told by a CSR that there will be a software solution. What I did notice was that when printing ABS it was louder.

I also had the rattling on right side with rapid z travel. This appeared after about one to two weeks of use. The solution was the motor z mount on right side. I had to take the four screws out of the top right z axis motor and turn left z lead screw to drop right motor. The three screws were a little loose. After I tighten the three bracket screws up the and reassembled the right z axis the rattle stoped.

it just clicks... short of buying your own power supply i doubt it will be replaced. the replacement will do the same. firmware cannot and will not ever fix it.

The clicking seems to be most pronounced when the heated bed is cycling at just the right rate, apparently hitting a resonance. I see a toroidal inductor that is most likely the culprit. Evga had a similar issue a long time ago when they used open toroidal inductors on their GPUs, which would buzz at the vertical refresh rate under the right conditions.

Now the question is if all printers have the issue at about the same frequency. It would be fairly easy to avoid the frequency range in firmware if that's the case.

Interesting thing I have noted... the power supply doesn't click if the bed is up to temperature but the nozzle is heating up (the bed led is indeed blinking). As soon as both the nozzle and bed are heated up, then the power supply clicking kicks in.

My MK3 kit also has a clicking power supply and like a few others, it will dim the lights in my room. My house is only 4 years old (built 2014) so the wiring should be good, right?

And before printing anything, I made sure I had the latest firmware (3.1.3-245).

I guess I'll be contacting support this weekend 🙁

My MK3 kit also has a clicking power supply and like a few others, it will dim the lights in my room. My house is only 4 years old (built 2014) so the wiring should be good, right?

You must have something else going on with the circuit your plugged in to. The printer under full load is going to pull less than 2.5 amps, no way it should be able to flicker your lights.

My Mk3 also makes the clicking noise and there is a noticeable variance/flicker in the room light, on the same circuit, which appears to be in sync with the clicking. In addition my 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal dies within about 6 feet of my Mk3, when it is running. When it is not in use the flickering is gone and the Wi-Fi is at moderate to strong signal strength. While the printer is in a different room then my AP, it is only about 13 feet away with a standard drywall wall between them. My 2.4 GHz signal seems to be unaffected. I believe there is some RF frequency leaking from the power supply which is causing the Wi-Fi issues and that the supply is also creating a higher than normal Harmonic Distortion on the electrical circuit appearing as a slight flickering of the incandescent bulb that is on the same circuit. Otherwise, the power supply seems to function with stable and correct DC power being supplied to the control board of my printer. My suspicion is that there is a component or design flaw within the power supply and not much Prusa can do, aside from changing to a different supplier / manufacturer for their power supplies. In a couple of months I will have access to the equipment needed to start checking if my suspicions are correct. In the meantime I don't find the clicking annoying enough to spend any time an money chasing it down.

Another chime on the PSU clicking sounds - I've got the same thing.

Just finished building the MK3 and everything went great. Might be a design that can be tweaked - I just hope if the PSU fails, PRUSA sends a replacement.

Happy with the printer so far (have only done test print logo) -- I'm surprised by how much quieter the MK3 is than my MK2 sitting right next to it -- other than this clicking noise, it's amazing.

Here is the 5GHZ Spectrum when near and far away from the Prusa MK3 Power supply. Channels 132-144 is my home network. Channel 36 randomly spikes when I get close to the Prusa MK3 power supply. The red and orange dots, in the waterfall are when I was next to the PSU, and the top portion, is when I walked away. I also did a packet loss test, with zero packet loss, using 132-144.

Unfortunately I am in the middle of a 18 hour print. Or, not in a good position to turn off or unplug (even though it should recover). Unplugging to see if Channel 36 drops, is the true test. In short, I don't know if the signal is coming from the Prusa PSU, my PC, Monitor, Battery Backup, Florescent Light, etc.

But, its a start.. I would check to see if you are around Channel 36, change if so.. and heck, who knows, may work.

I will do another test after the print is done.

Just purchased a prebuilt mk3 and I am getting the flickering (newer house 2010). I really notice it when the red light is clicking. Any solutions?

I just built my Mk3, located in the US and I do not notice any clicking from the power supply. I even put my ear to the power supply, but could not notice any clicking
