MK3 Just got real noisey?

Hello all! New to Prusa Fanboying not new to 3D printing or Fanboying I’m general (Apple4Life)...

Anyway came from a Flashforge and loved it! Thousands of hours and still prints awesome! Fast forward to my MK3 coming... first off, I love it. What’s a cool machine! Secondly, I started noticing the part cooling fan is noisey... I’m not sure why, but it just started.

Am I alone with this issue?

Thirdly, I have to say... in regular mode I read a lot about how quiet this printer was.... but my opinion is, it’s really not quiet. Stealth is impressive, but when it makes big moves it’s super loud. My Flashforge is maybe not quieter but definitely a lot lower pitched. Just my opinion.

On my fan should I contact Prusa?

Re: MK3 Just got real noisey?

my part fan on my mk2 got really noisy, and started under cooling.
if you touched the central dome, gently, you could feel it vibrating.

often pressing a little harder stops the vibration and causes the fan to speed up for a while.

the problem was poor lubrication of the plain bearing bush. a temporary cure was to unscrew the fan, remove the sticker from the middle of the back of the fan, and drop a couple of drops of light oil into the hole in the fan hub, then replace the sticker and re fit the fan...

the cure was to buy a fan of similar nature with ball bearings instead of the plain bearings. never went faulty again... so far no problems with mk3 fan, but i do have a ball bearing version and oil can, on hand in case the problem arises

regards Joan

Joan,

Do you have a source for the MK3 print cooling fans? Mine has a break in the wire and support has sent me a MK2 fan. I've spent almost two weeks dealing with support trying to get them to send the correct fan. If I can order one, I'd be better off I believe.

Hi Chris,

finding 5volt 5015 fans with tacho, is difficult, try here

Hi Bobby,

I would replace the wire using soldered joints and heat shrink tubing..., putting the joints inside the einsy case and on the fixed part of the X axis carriage, so that there is no strain on the joints

Just order a few from Prusa. At least you can get it in a week. Add a spool of filament while you are at it. Free shipping! 🙂

When they ship my 2kg spool of nGen, I'm getting a resupply of goodies.
a hotend thermistor, a new filament sensor. (I hooked mine up wrong, and smoked it.. whooops), and a new part cooling fan.

That part cooling fan is RARE.

PS: I ripped the wires out of my part cooling fan. I simply soldered them back in. 🙂 (also why I'm ordering a new one... My expectations on the life of that fan go down by the minute)

Hi, I'm Sean. I used to work on CNC machines.
I try to not make mistakes, but the decision is YOURS.
Please feel free to donate to my filament/maintance fund.

Re: MK3 Just got real noisey?

Mine has started to make noise as well. Goes away after a few minutes, but I suspect it will get worse after time without lubrication.

I just ordered one of those fans you linked Joan, thanks!
