"MK3 firmware detected on MK3S". I have a MK3???
I just did the MK3S+ upgrade and the firmware was already up to date. Starting it up after the upgrade and I am seeing this error message "MK3S firmware detected on MK3S". I have a MK3 so there must the something I did during the upgrade that makes the printer think its a MK3S??

I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to install the mk3s+ firmware..?
If you installed an Mk3S+ upgrade then you should install the Mk3S+ firmware.
RE: Firmware issues
Hi Miriam,
the Mk3 has a Laser Filament sensor (4 wires)
the Mk3S and Mk3S+ has an Infrared Filament Sensor (3 wires, possibly RED Solder resist)
if you used the Mk3S+ upgrade kit, it's probably the Filament sensor which is being flagged...
I suggest that you Upgrade the firmware...

It started working
Well I opened the Einsy case and checked everything (didn't actually unplug anything) and it went away. <shrug>
Nope still broken
I ran the self test and the filament sensor isn't detected. I fiddled with the wires and restarted and the message came back.
Firmware was already updated
Hi Joan. The Mk3 had 3.10.0-4481 before I did the physical upgrades and still shows the same version after re-flashed.
Odd that its telling me the sensor isn't detected when it clearly is. <shrug> maybe the issue of the fw is why the sensor isn't working?

Unclear

Just clarify: Did you install the MK3S+ firmware?

RE: Firmware issues
Try to examine the wiring carefully. The red wire is positive and should be attached to the voltage lead of the sensor. Also check to see that you plugged the other end of the sensor correctly to the bottom of the connector. Again the red wire is positive and should be the first lead.
After verifying the wiring, your filament sensor will be recognized by the printer.
I have confirmed it is connected correctly based on the instructions pictures
Out of curiosity, I have also tried another cable and also another sensor that I have from a second upgrade kit. The filament sensor is NOT detected. I have not seen the message "MK3 firmware detected on MK3S printer" recently.
I installed the latest MK3 firmware
I installed the latest firmware for the MK3.

Solved
Needed to install the MK3S/+ firmware. The instructions weren't clear. I added a comment on the directions to be clearer.
You are not the first,
You are not the first, nor will you the last the make that error. The bottom line is that when you upgrade, your printer is no longer an Mk3.
Happy printing!
