MINTEMP Error

Hi!

I got my MK3 yesterday and set up everything.

I turned it on and got the MINTEMP error. I know that I connected the thermistors correctly as the temperature is displayed in the LCD. It is just too cold in the lab where the printer is standing. I know that the MK2 produces an error below 15°C ambient temperature.

According to Josefs blog post the MK3 should not do that:

"A normal single-head printer usually comes with two thermistors. One in the extruder and one on the heatbed. We have two more increasing the total to 4 and both are there for a very good reason. One is measuring ambient temperature on the electronics. This helps us prevent non intended MINTEMP errors when starting a print in areas with 15°C or less (yes some people do that and previously had to use a hairdryer to warm the printer up). It also detects a board or connector failure! The second one is embedded in the P.I.N.D.A. 2 probe tip. Normal induction sensors have a temperature drift, meaning that different temperatures might cause the probe to trigger at a different height. Now we can compensate for it, so you can leave the printer preheated for hours and the first layer will always be spot on!"

I had to use a hairdryer to get the MK3 to work...Is this functionality not implemented yet or what is the problem here?

Thanks!

What is the ambient temp where your printer is?

No comment from some at Prusa Research? It's stupid to use a blow dryer to jumpstart the printer...

Re: MINTEMP Error

I got a MINTEMP error earlier today.

I searched Reddit, and someone said the Marlin firmware cannot recover from the error by itself. You have to reset/restart the printer.
I reboot my printer, and that fixed it just fine. (Ambient temperature didn't change, thats for sure).

I think they said in the reddit post that you will get the error if you turn off your printer in a weird state? Like when its cooling or something? Sorry, I can't recall. Just search reddit for MINTEMP error.

Re: MINTEMP Error

Also got the min temp error.
And as Prusa said it should not happen any more because they have a sensor on the Einsy.

Re: MINTEMP Error

Unless I'm reading the source wrong - which definitely may be the case - the part that calls for mintemp and maxtemp errors doesn't take the pinda or ambient temp sensor values into account.

Thanks for the update.

It is quite annoying as my basement is between 14-16°C

Thanks Josef! The printer is operating in a Fablab and telling the visitors to use a heat gun to start the printer is something I really don't like to do. Can't wait for the update!

Wow, that is one chilly Fablab, I hope you don't plan to to print ABS. We finally got the thermistor table dialed in and next fw should be up by the end of the week.

Haha, yeah. Insulation is basically nonexistant.

I know printing ABS at these temperatures is impossible. I will probably build an enclosure for the printer if we see the need to be able to print ABS.

Thanks for the info!

Hey Josef,

I installed the firmware upgrade. The MINTEMP error doesn't occur anymore, but the printer will not respond until the ambient temperature is over 15°C. I guess there is still some check that prevents the printer from working...For the time being I need to flash the old firmware again. 😕

Re: MINTEMP Error

I'm running b137 and woke up to the printer (left on overnight) at 15C with Mintemp error (cold overnight here in Colorado). Reset button did not resolve. Had to break out my heat gun. Tried again at 20C and worked fine from there. Strangely, my MK2S sits right next to it on the same shelf and read 20C when I switched it on.

Re: MINTEMP Error

I just finished my MK3 build earlier this week. I am also getting the MINTEMP BED error when the ambient temp is low (in upstate NY -18C today). I've been preheating the bed in the same manner described. I'm looking forward to a better solution. I was hoping to find a setting that I could adjust indicating a lower allowable min temp.

Aside from the mintemp issue, prints are looking really nice.

Firmware 3.1.1-RC b121

Re: MINTEMP Error

Hello!
I assembled my MK3 this week-end and it works great, except after I put it in my garage where it has a hard time starting: MINTEMP errors (sometimes bed, sometimes hotend).

It's quite cold there (11-16) and was hoping a setting or new firmware could solve this issue.

In the meantime I found that starting a print with MINTEMP will still heat a bit before canceling* so start/reset 2-3 prints will usually achieve to heat it enough to past those pesky 15 degrees.

*actually desired temp goes to 0 after 10 secs and printer is stuck at trying to heat? (no errors).

Using latest 3.1.1 RC4 B143 firmware.

Re: MINTEMP Error

Julien,

does the manual preheat work? I couldn't find it in this thread but still think I read about this as a workaround somewhere in this forum. (menu --> preheat --> pla) and once the temps are somewehre well in the green start the print, it will take it from there.

Re: MINTEMP Error

Thanks, I tried that again and the preheat doesn't work, it tries and stops immediately.
I also found that placing my bare hand on the bed seems is raising the 1-2 degrees missing

I checked in the menu support->temperatures and here is what I've got:
- Nozzle: 14º
- Bed: 14º
- Ambiant: 20º
- PINDA: 14º

The Ambiant probe seems to detect a quite different temperature and triggers a MINTEMP 😕

Re: MINTEMP Error

Also this error on my MK3, after printing during 7 hour, arrived at 93%!!!!! I'm despited!

Tt was PLA, at 215°C and plate 60°C, environnement at 21.5°C.

Possible to continue printing without loose all ready made???

Thanks for help

Re: MINTEMP Error

For my issue, I downloaded the firmware from github and changed the mintemps to 10ºC to match my use case.

This is working great as a temporary workaround.

I'm not sure why it's arbitrarily set at 15ºC, I don't think I am the only one having the printer in their garage: it's the only place in the house where we don't hear the noises (even if MK3 is pretty silent!) and smell the fumes.
