Re: MINTEMP Error

Hi Julien,

the thermistors are relatively low cost temperature indicators and it is difficult to sense low temperatures,

the chances are, that if you disconnect your thermister, your printer display will indicate about 11 centigrade...
to prevent uncontrolled heating in the event of a broken wire or similar event, prusa have chosen the lowest likely temperature where the thermister will be reasonably responsive for MinTemp, as a safety feature

regards Joan

I try to make safe suggestions,You should understand the context and ensure you are happy that they are safe before attempting to apply my suggestions, what you do, is YOUR responsibility. Location Halifax UK

Re: MINTEMP Error

Thanks Joan, this makes sense.

This is unfortunate that we cannot reliably detect low temperatures, maybe we should use a better sensor.

I will double check the temperature detected when disconnected and adjust my MINTEMP.

In the meantime I'll use my modified firmware during winter, staying close to it when printing.
As Josef replied to me on Twitter "Please have a fire alarm in there!" 🔥

Re: MINTEMP Error

It's been pretty cold these days, when I open my garage door I can attest the bed and nozzle thermistors can detect pretty low temps. Ambiant is staying at 12 probably because it's more enclosed.

Re: MINTEMP Error

Suggestion...get a big cardboard box that can fit over the printer, add a small incandescent light bulb in the box, cover that with a blanket. It's quick and dirty but I bet it will get your printer up to a better temperature. Long term, build a nice heated enclosure.

I seem to be having this same issue occasionally. In my case, though, cold ambient temperatures are fairly rare and don't last that long.

What I found most curious is that the Mk3 was showing bed and nozzle temps around 15C, my Mk2S and Mk2MMU were showing in the 20's for those same parameters. They sit on either side of the Mk3. So they have to be a the same temp.

It makes me wonder if my Mk3 is not getting as hot as the Mk2's.

Joe

P.S. I did find that using my heat gun to CAREFULLY heat up the bed and/or nozzle a little did get things going.

Re: MINTEMP Error

Has anyone been getting the "MINTEMP Error" since the latest firmware update (3.1.2-RC1)? Since updating the firmware on my MK3 I now get the error constantly, and hotend shows 15c. Ambient temperature in my house is 20c. This has not stopped me from printing, or heating up my hotend. Is it just a coincidence that this has started happening right after doing firmware update, and that there is a problem with my thermistor? Or is there a bug with the new firmware? I have a new thermistor on order, and should be receiving that in the mail tomorrow. Unfortunately I did not order it from Prusa, considering I live in the U.S. and shipping cost is extremely high. So I ordered an E3D V6 thermistor locally from Amazon ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072HNL9MR/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ), but in order to install the new thermistor it looks like I'm going to have remove the plug on the it, and solder on a longer wire so that it can be installed on the MK3. I don't mind doing this, and I have plenty of soldering experience, but I would like to get some advice before taking the time to do so. Should I replace my thermistor, or is this a possible firmware issue?

While writing my last reply I performed a "Self Test" of the printer. At first I had to heat up the hotend using the "Preheat" option in order to get the hotend temperature up past 15c. Before doing that the "Self Test" would give a hotend temperature error. But once I did the preheat the "Self Test" worked fine, and reported no errors. But while I was typing my last reply, and after the "Self Test" was completed, the hotend temperature dropped back down, and settled in at my room temperature of 23c? I moved the x-axis all around, moved the cables behind the carriage to see if the thermistor wire might have a break in it, and to see if the temperature would drop back down to 15c. But it has staid constant at 23c (room temperature), so now I'm thinking that it's not a problem with my thermister?

Re: MINTEMP Error

My mk3 locked up today in mintemp error failing a print after 15 hours, checked the connections, reset the printer. Not sure what ptc throw the error as both jumps down to 0 after a while, bed most suspicious. The printer will heat up (both target value and measured value looks fine) and do the bedleveling matrix and stop with the error. fw 3.1.3

Any known resitancevalue to troubleshoot the ptcs?

May be fw or controller?

i had a broken therm wire on my bed that i repaired, but i was getting min temp errors from that.
