Minimum Temperature for Extruder-motion

Hi all,

I did a quick search on the forum, but couldn't find anything. Though I *think* I remember something on that topic, but it must be a loooooong time ago...

Because today I was almost going berserk on my Mk3 while trying once more the MMU...

At first I thought it was a problem on the newest firmware 3.4.1, but I realised I was chasing something else entirely.

In order to try to reduce stringing, I lowered the temperature used for the PVA to 190°C.
During the filament-change, the temperature dropped below to about 186°C, only slowly catching up.
Symptoms I had, was that during the prime-tower, the extruder wouldn't move at all: The filament was fed to the extruder "as advertised", but was not pulled-in by the extruder. Only when the extruder moved to the object, it started feeding. It took four attempts (including rollback to firmware 3.4.0) to make me realise it was temperature-related...

So the question to the pros is:
Is my suspicion right, is there a hard-coded temperature, below which any movement of the extruder is inhibited?
If so, is it possible for a "normal" user to edit that number?
Since PVA from Verbatim is rated 210°C - 180°C, and I still got substantial stringing with 195°C, I would like to explore lower temperatures like 185°C.
So for me a limit of 175°C would be required, instead of the current 190°C.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

Cheers,
Daniel

RE: Minimum Temperature for Extruder-motion

The prusa extruder stops at  about 170c but you can issue a Gcode to lower that limit

I don't know which Gcode as I have never used it. Sorry

Try using M302 Sxxx in your startup gcode where xxx is the desired low temp. I believe PJR pointed this out originally. I've used it down to 180 with rigid.ink filament.
