Major print failure, looking for guidance for repairs/replacements

Hello!

I had a clog while I was printing but not home. When I came home, my whole hot end was encased in PLA. I managed to get most of it off, but it looks like some wires became damaged and I wasn't sure where to begin with repairs and/or replacing parts. Any guidance would be appreciated, thanks!

Looks like your thermistor wires took a beating...

You may get away with a new thermistor.

Or you may choose to change hot ends, until the recent firmware turned up, Revo Six's were popular alternatives.

I put a phaetus hot end on my printer, and I havent tried version 3.12 firmware yet... but I did do another single handed nozzle change last night...

If you stay with e3D v6 hot end, I suggest that you buy 2 thermistors and one heater, then if you happen to damage the heater wires in this episode, you have one handy, on site. If you don't damage the heater wires, you have a spare thermistor and heater, for next time you have a blob of doom...

I use a soldering iron to carve the cold filament off the outside of a blob of doom, whilst the extruder heater heats the blob from inside at the same time,
this way, there is less liklihood of pulling the thermistor wires during blob removal. r

Thanks for the reply, Joan! Until this happened, I've had no major issues with my stock setup. What's the advantage of switching out versus staying stock, if you don't mind educating me a little?

If your thermistor wires near the extruder are damaged they are difficult to repair.

Sorry I may have misunderstood.

Revo6 and phaetus hot ends are easier to change nozzles on...
