Loud Z-axis noise only when moved not manually (e.g. Auto Home)
Hey everyone,
I have a MK3S+ for almost 3 years now, and it works great, but it has 1 weird issue: whenever the Z-axis moves not manually (not via Settings -> Move axis) it's really loud. For example during auto home/when it finishes a print.
If I move it manually (via Settings), it is really quiet, as it should be.
I tried to see if it has something to do with the speed, so I checked how long it takes for the Z axis to go up-to-down via Auto Home vs manually, and it is exactly the same time (just different sound), so it has nothing to do with the speed it moves.
From my experience with motors, it seems like it is a software thing - when moved manually, it seems to use microsteps (making it quieter), but during Auto Home it doesn't, which makes it louder.
And.. it does sound right, but it doesn't feel right?
A few more points:
- I am using the latest software.
- No software/printer modifications were ever made.
- Doesn't matter if it is on Stealth mode or not.
- I'm pretty sure it is like that since it was new, so it has nothing to do with the fact it is 3 years old. (It doesn't affect the print quality, so I was just never bothered too much to find a solution).
- I know placing the printer on a sponge or a concrete block might reduce the noise, but that’s more of a workaround than a solution to the actual issue.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea what’s going on or how to fix it?
Any help will be really appreciated!
