Losing oil from motor

Looks like one of the motors is losing oil. I'm guessing I'll need to buy a new motor. Any reason why this would have happened to a fairly new printer with probably about 100 hours of printing on it?

With 100 hours you're probably still within the warranty period. Get on the chat with Prusa Support. That's why you've paid premium.

Aside for the life time lubricated bearings in the motor I don't believe there's any oil in a stepper motor. 🤔

@swiss_cheese is right, I'm not aware of Pusa using any oil filled motors.  Did you pack your linear bearings with low temperature grease?

Cheerio,

I didn't do anything other than build the printer as best I could per the instructions.

Very weird, where could it be coming from!?

I've dissembled several dozen steppers in my day and never came across any that used oil, bearings excluded of course.

@surelockescapesllc

Just based on the image you posted it really looks like someone just sprayed it there, there's even spatter in the surrounding area.

As a side note: Based on my own experience, If you happen to have a son that likes to get into your tools, he would be my first  suspect. 😉

Let us know how the mystery unfolds.

Okay, mystery solved.

There is a wire shelf above the 3D printer, but before posting I had carefully checked and there was nothing near it that could be leaking onto it. After finding out there's no oil motor, I went back and found that something is leaking about 5' over onto the top of the shop light mounted to the underside of the wire shelf, and then running along a channel in the light and dripping down.

Wow, fluids travel in strange and mysterious ways. I'm glad you figured that out, a few more inches to the left and that could have been a much worse case if the oil type happened to be conductive. I'm sure you have already thought of this, but be sure to clean the printers bed with soap and water to remove any potential oil splash that might have got on it.
