Let's discuss the control board
Some digging has shown me that the i3 MK3 uses a EINSY RAMBo control board.
While I Have found a detailed description of the RAMBo 1.4 1.3L (see image below) I can't find any details on the EINSY RAMBo board.
My question, referring to the image above, is does the EINSY board have the control ports for 2 hotend heaters and two extruder (E0 and E1) stepper drivers?
If so, is it possible to use a 3rd party dual hotend/extruder setup like two E3D Titan extruders and an E3D Chimera+ hotend?
I am aware of the MMU and of the nice advances (purge/wipe to infil, create a purge/wipe object other than a block, etc), and am willing to consider that as an option, but I like options. 🙂

The version of the RAMBO used on the MK3 does not appear to have plugs for a second extruder.
If you look at step 8 on this page of the assembly instructions https://manual.prusa3d.com/Guide/8.+Electronics+assembly/513?lang=en you can see a photo of the version in the MK3. It looks significantly different from your picture.

Thanks for the info. Darned shame, though. I don't have my Prusa yet. I'm returning my Ender3 tomorrow, never going with a Bowden design again.
FWIW I did a price comparison, the MMU is cheaper than the option I suggested.
Looks like I'm going to have to build the printer after the Prusa to get what I want. There are some nice options on OpenBuilds.com

#1 No, only has a single extruder output, no 5th driver for a second extruder
#2 Only has 2 high power FET controlled outputs, one for the heated bed, one for the single extruder. The other 2 MOSFETs for fans are lower current rating and also on the 2 pin connectors with 5V.
While I guess one could hack together an external MOSFET and external stepper driver carrier, and use custom firmware and connect those to the expansion headers, that's a lot of work. Again, while technically possible, it requires, something like these 2 parts, additional wiring, and custom firmware to map the new outputs.

Prusa did create a four port expander / multiplexor option for the Multi Material Unit v1, on the mk2 printer using additional ports on the unidentified connector to the right of thr LCD / GPIO connectors, in the mini rambo picture above
there was no scope for a second heater with MMUv1

Where do you see the benefit using EINSI board for a dual extruder customization? At the end you will not be able to use original Prusa firmware out of stock.

I have a Prusa MK3S and was wondering where there was an unused pin (or three) that I could use on the controller to control some LED lights via GCODE. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

as far as I can see neither has scope for a second extruder in standard setup,

Does the Prusa have a proprietary Einsy board or can I order one of the einsy 1.1a boards off the internet? I don't plan on multi materials at this time.

To my best knowledge MK3's all shipped with unmodified Ultimachine Einsy Rambo 1.0a and later versions, including the latest 1.1a. But then, I thought the heatbreak was also a standard E3D v6 until recently.

If there are indeed unused pin(s), it would be neat if the firmware designates a pin to indicate when operator intervention is required. This would be so useful, for example, to interface with a flashing light that is visible across a large, noisy workshop.

You can use some of the pins that are there for connecting the optional Raspberry Pi Zero. Here's a blog post that shows how to use them for triggering a camera to do a timelapse:

But which ones are genuinely free and a available to be used via GCode pin control?
