LCD intermittent garbled or just rectangles

Lots of CLD trouble (sometimes garbled characters, sometimes good – mostly garbled).

Can print just fine using OctoPrint & Raspberry Pi 4

Installed new LCD & cables

Still garbled characters.

What is next?  New Einsy RAMBo?

This is usually a poor connection at the Rambo end - but you've replaced the cable.  This leaves the possibility that the Rambo socket is damaged, dirty or corroded...  Clean with switch cleaner or acetone, insert and remove the plug several times, if you know how to, check for dry joints and broken tracks: then try again.

Cheerio,

The ribbon can also be sensitive to how you folded it during installation. this can also cause interference that will create the garbled output on your LCD display.

it's worth checking,

I have found some questionable soldering at the pins on the Rambo board at the flex socket. You might want to wiggle the connector a bit.

Similar issue at the display board. Use a good magnifier to check the solder joints on both. Next to check are is the flex ribbon connector and the plugs to check for continuity.

Remove any memory card and see if it makes a difference else check the OS if it happened after an upgrade.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Thank you

I ordered a new Rambo card but when it arrives I will not toss the original one, but rather microscopically examine it.  If I find a bad solder, I will fix it and then have a spare!  It sure does behave like a bad solder.

Hmm, I would have tried many things before ordering a new Rambo board, but it can't hurt to have another around I have two laying in waiting for 3 printers, However I would suggest once again checking the cable\Ribon, and board connections first.

It's your money.

Good Luck

already changed the LCD & cables

I already replaced the LCD and cables with no change to the scrambled letters on the display.

Brain transplant worked!

I replaced the Rambo and now my printer is running great again.  I inspected the old card under my binocular microscope and do not see any sign of a cold-solder.  I will keep looking.  I did notice that the new card's appearance is quite different than the old one with the varnish now a clear-coat where the other was opaque.  That does not matter functionally, except I suspect a different vender is making them (That is a guess for sure!).  I have my fingers crossed that now all is well.
