Is it possible to use the MK3S upgrade kit to repair a broken MK3?

My MK3 filament sensor died and so I bought the MK3S upgrade because I needed a replacement anyway. Unfortunately I didn't buy the one with pre fabricated plastic parts so now I have a spool of filament and a printer that doesn't print.

I was wondering if I could use the kit's filament sensor to replace my MK3 filament sensor, print the parts, and then upgrade my printer.

turn the  filament sensor off on the mk3 and you should be able to print after manually loading the filament.

once you have printed the replacement parts, do the upgrade, upload the new firmwear and you should be good to go

it would probably be worth printing the filament sensor spacer before doing the upgrade, just in case you need it

and if you haven't already lubricated your linear bearings, now may be a good time!

@joantabb

Thanks for getting back to me. Unfortunately my printer is uncalibrated as I tried to do a reset before posting here.

That being said

1) How do I turn off the filament sensor?

2) Is it possible to calibrate the printer and print without said sensor?

@penguinmaster1

Use the lcd menu to make sure the dilament sensor is off.

Then use the lcd menu  to load some pla filament and at the very least run a first layer calibration using  the lcd

Better stilk. Search 'Life adjust Z, My Way'...

There are three files in a zip file. At the bottom of the first post.

One each for PLA, PETG, AND ABS...

This will help. Because you need to calibrate  for  PETG filament. To print your replacement parts.

The upgrade  printer parts are available on the Prusa3d.com site. Under the printable  parts drop  down menu . As either ore sliced Gcode  or STL files
