Interesting Issue...Crashing After 5-10 Layers Printed.

I've got my first layer laying down beautifully.  It will print anywhere between 5 and 10 layer and then Crash.  It doesn't seem to hit anything.  There are no plastic blobs or strings.  It's going great then it'll "Crash" then start printing as if the X axis moved over.  I've tried several different shapes.  Any ideas?

Just to add...

I had about 20 or so good prints with no hardware changes before this started happening.  There's no obvious interference that I can tell that would cause a crash.  I've since replaced the nozzle and recalibrated multiple times.

I did a belt test with X at 210 and Y at 270.  Decided to relax the X axis and found out it was loosened all the way.  I took the belt out and reinstalled it one cog less.  That gave me a new X axis reading at 230.  Decided to go one more and I'm at 240.  It seems almost too loose now but so far the test print is going well.  We'll see.

RE:

I still can't figure this out.  Crashing on the X axis.  One of the X axis smooth rods had what appeared to be a scratch in it.  I replaced both rods.  New linear bearings and roller/idler bearing on the end.  Ensured the belt is centered.  I don't know what else there is.  Maybe a new stepper motor?

It could go several hours and just crash for no apparent reason.

I think I'm having the same issue...

Very possible.

I chatted with Prusa customer support about it.  The best they could suggest was turning off crash reporting.  This is the result...

Clearly, there's something going on that's catching on the X axis.  I think I'm going to re-tear down and add new bearings (again).  It's possible I overgreased the last ones I just put in.  I've also ordered a new stepper motor.  Someone on Reddit suggested that the motherboard could be overheating.  Guess that'll be the next thing I throw at it if this doesn't work.

@txroadracer I think I may have found my issue and since yours is similar, it's probably worth a check.

With nothing else left to replace, I decided to order a new X axis stepper motor.  As I was trying to pull the timing pully off the old motor , I realized that I couldn't turn the motor by hand.  Definitely something was wrong.

I installed the new motor and was finally able to get a good belt test.  It's showing 260 now and tension appears to be correct.  I just started a 60 hour print, so we'll see but I'm cautiously optimistic.

I dropped a little oil on the motor shaft and the internals and got the pliers to it to loosen it up.  That seemed to work.  I'm back to being able to turn it by hand smoothly with zero effort.

@aramp1 super psyched that you figured out your problem and appreciate you posting for us. I got good tension test results and the slides feel smooth so I dont think that was my issue.

Check your idler bearings, both of them.

Cheerio,
