Instructions on how to strip down Mk3s for maintenance?

Hi all,

Had my Mk3s for around a year and a bit now and it's been printing moreorless non stop..... 😉

Thinking it's probably not far off needing a maintenance strip down - ie think some of the bearings sound like they'll need replaced in the not too distant future, reoil, clean out the extruder gears etc etc.

Is there any tutorial/guide to the usual things that should be done in a general strip down (if I'm going to disassemble, I'd rather clear up all the usual suspects rather than have to go at them again)?

Also it'd be good to know what parts I should buy to 'renew' the printer - thinking linear bearings are probably the main suspects?

Many thanks in advance for any tips!

A good question I think. Also what should be considered as essential replacements. Better bearings? Mk3s upgrade?

First of all check the mechanics. You don't have to tear down the printer for that. Heavy wear is visible and easy to check by moving parts and visual markings. Do the bearings still move freely? Has the black Z-Nut (forgot the name of it) huge play? Is anything else wobbly if you wriggle on it?

If everything still looks fine, then no reason to replace anything. Especially if you don't have any issues right now, just keep printing until anything breaks. We had already many stories here where people are trying to improve something and ending up with new issues.

Keep everything lubricated and clean and couple years of usage is nothing to worry about.
