Insert second power switch

Hello

I'm looking for a simple solution to add a second power switch. The second switch is a access box with an RFID and small relais in it.

Because of the high current I don't want to insert the box before or after the main switch. Is there an other possibility to insert it?

Thank you
Patrick

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Some sort of remote switch off or something?

We have three MK3 at our FabLab. Every member has a RFID card and with the RFID box we can give the permission to use the printer and on the other hand we can measure the usage time for calculate the usage fee.

Re: Insert second power switch

You could just use an off the shelf remote wifi switch (like a Sonoff) to control the power to the printer. Then when someone tags on (from an rfid sender on a separate power circuit) send a msg to the remote switch to switch the printer on. Same thing to turn the printer off if you wanted.

Now, doing all that will require some sort of messaging framework. This scenario is ideally suited to using Node Red (nodered.org). You install NR on a raspberry pi, get a sonoff or other device, and together with your rfid tagger you have a complete system.

It sounds like a lot of work, but to do the basics it really isn't. Especially for a fablab 🙂
