@guy-k2

A full reset was the next plan. But no. I did not do that yet, if that is necessary than i would expect that explained in the release notes.

Prusa does not instruct users to do so, but quite a few of us who have been testing the branches leading up to 3.8.0 have run into bizarre errors that could only be solved with a full data erase. It really isn't that surprising given how extensively they reworked how settings are stored in EEPROM.

Resetting all data fixed the problem.

Perhaps no surpise, but the average user does not know about the eeprom changes. I’m a programmer myself (and I wish I had the time to dive in the firmware) and with code changes that can brake stuff, i definitely would mention it in the release notes.

Interesting thing with the data stored in eeprom. Is it recommended to erase when upgrading across major versions, or in general upgrades are smooth but this time there are changes so big that old data need to be erased?

Just had the same X axis error. Fixed it with an autohome then self test.

Printer is a self assembled mk3s, had it running for a full week, with some layer shift from time to time, but else okay. Decided to try and track drown the layer shifts - tightened y axis, and then the X axis started not passing selftest.

Printer is 10 days old, 8 days 14 hours of print time 😀 . Firmware 3.8.0-2684.

(Says sep 6 in it, not sure if it thinks that is the current date, or date of 'manufacuring')

Belt status reads 250 and 258

Howdy all

I updated to the latest firmware today and on my next print I got the self test error for the x axis. I checked the belt status and adjusted the printer so that the values were in between the prescribed 240-300 range. Tried running the self test again and I got the same error. Then tried moving the extruder back and forth and learned that the extruder would not move. It was stuck on the right! #$%! This printer was shipped built so some of the other issues described above do not pertain...I hope and think. This printer was working like a... machine... for 6 months before this issue.  Tried rebooting but same error message. Please help.

if you can't move the extruder on the x axis with the power off you have X bearing problems - hop over the the prusa shop and open a chat session

@david-a66

Thanks David.

I did a factory reset and amazingly it passed the x axis calibration and the extruder is now able to move back and forth. But now a different issue has arisen. I am in the middle of the wizard set up and the first layer calibration is not working. More specifically, the extruder is not extruding filament, even though the motors ran the filament through for loading. During the first attempt a crash was detected and I ran it again. The second time no crash but also no extrusion.
