Hot-end not turning off, and print head resting on printed part at end of print job

For the last two print jobs, the printer has stopped moving away from the printed object and turning off the hot end and heat bed off after the job completes.

The PC Card slot is warned out, and doesn't read the memory card reliably any more.
So I therefore print via OctoPrint. I have connected a Raspberry 3 to the Einsy board, and that prints just fine.

But as mentioned, starting yesterday, I stopped moving away from the print and turn off the heat. Today I found it with the Prusa safety feature triggered turning off the hot end because it's been sitting stationary on the part with full heat one for a while.

I have checked the GCode and it does contain the lines to home and turn off the bed and hot end.

Any suggestions what could be causing this?

I personally would not use the GPIO header for communication.

As a test, use a USB connection to the Einsy. Sounds to me like you lost communication.

And how do you wear out a SD socket? The display unit, including a new socket, is not that expensive.

The SD slot mechanics - at least older ones - bend over time and cause inadequate pressure on the fingers making the connection.  There is a piece over on Thingyverse to help: it shapes the metal behind the SD slot to stay flat as cards are inserted.

@robert-rmm200

Could be loss of communication, but it's odd then that it's only after the print is done - and it happens at the same point in the print both times.

I use this method, because the SD slot in the Prusa control panel was very loose from the very start when I got the printer. I got one of the very first of the Mk3's. And over time it got worse. It would start to behave odd. Pause mid print, then continue, move erratically, etc.

The way the Raspberry PI is connected is the same as when the Pi Zero is connected directly to the back of the Einsy board in Prusa's setup.
I used a Pi Zero for about a year until the SD card died from not being powered down properly.
The PI Zero is really under powered for the task, so that's why I switched to a Raspberry Pi 3.
I don't power the PI from the Einsy board, but I do ensure they are at the same potential by connection the grounds.

The Raspberry setup has worked great, until now that is.

Great tip - thanks. I'll see if I can find that tool.
